Remember when ballet flats were the go-to shoe for, like, everything? Well, they’re making a major comeback with a modern twist that I’m so here for: mesh uppers. Yes, mesh ballet flats are quietly taking over this season—and as someone who despises wearing heels (and admittedly, has sweaty feet), I’m into it.

In my search for the best pair, I came across a ton of mesh ballet flats and gathered just a few of my favorites. I found different adaptations of “mesh,” from elegant bridal Mary Janes with a mesh lining to jelly ballet flats perfect for the beach. But they all have three things in common: a slip-on design, an adorable vibe, and a breezy feel.

We were impressed with these ballet flats we found at Walmart, which bring back the trend in most modern way—with a mesh upper, flirty floral designs, and a little bow detail by the toes. Note that the brand says to spot clean only.

As someone who rarely wears heels, I wish these Vivaia Mary Janes existed when I got married a couple of years ago. The embroidered floral art and delicate buckle and make for the perfect bridal (or wedding guest!) shoe. I could even see them working well for more casual events, like a brunch picnic. Bonus: Multiple of our staffers like the brand for its comfortable flats.

Polka dots never get old, and these Sam Edelman flats would look so cute with tights or crew socks with a ruffle trim. The silver buckle adds an edgy touch to the feminine aesthetic.

We’ve named Birdies one of the most comfortable flats, and the open-weave material on this pair seems extra breathable. And while these flats come in three colors, the red is particularly stunning. Note: While doing research for this story, 70+ other people were viewing them on Nordstrom’s website.

If you ask me, the easiest way to add some oomph to an otherwise basic outfit is incorporating some animal print. We love that these leopard flats comes in half sizes; plus, the wider buckle strap helps ensure a more secure fit. There are also tons of additional colors and styles available with the same mesh material.

I, personally, love a good jelly shoe—primarily because they’re easy to clean! These ones have wide openings for easy on and off, and the large holes are great for keeping feet breezy and dumping out sand if you’re using them at the beach.

The neutral tint of these fishnet Mary Janes make them suitable for everyday outfits—heck, they can be your go-to summer shoes for barbecues, traveling, or heading to the flea market with friends. They also come in several other colors, including woven styles.

We’ve talked about Rothy’s more than a few times, simply because the brand’s shoes are comfortable, versatile, and easy to clean. These espadrilles have a removable, cushioned insole—plus, they have about half an inch of added height. Out of all the ballet flats on this list, these will probably feel the most sneaker-like.
