Sweet Magnolias season 5 will premiere on Netflix on June 11, 2026.
Ahead of the new season, actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher announced she’s starring in the Netflix holiday film A Christmas Kind of Love.
The news comes days before she guest-starred on an episode of Happy’s Place on NBC.
Sweet Magnolias may not be back on TV just yet, but JoAnna Garcia Swisher has so much going on ahead of the new season!
The hit Netflix drama is set to return for season 5 on June 11, 2026, and fans are ready to see the actress back on TV. But JoAnna isn’t only working on the series with Netflix—she also announced she has a new project already in the works with the streamer.
As JoAnna revealed on Instagram on March 6, she’s starring in a new Netflix holiday movie called A Christmas Kind of Love. Working alongside actors Mark Wystrach and Madison Wolfe, she also used the moment to tease how the film just wrapped filming in Louisiana.
“We are already celebrating Christmas down here in the big easy 🎶❤️🎄,” she wrote alongside screenshots of the Deadline announcement.
Unsurprisingly, fans were ecstatic about the prospect of JoAnna starring in a Netflix holiday movie.
“Yayyyyy! I’m excited. I love me some @jogarciaswisher,” one person wrote. “I am so ready for this!!! Let’s start celebrating Christmas now!!” another cheered. “If Joanna Garcia Swisher is in it, I'll be watching it! She's awesome and amazing in everything she's in!” a different follower added.
According to the outlet, the movie follows a widowed baker raising her daughter in rural Louisiana. When the baker’s daughter discovers her past as a country singer, she must use her talents to help reclaim that part of her life and save the town’s Christmas production.
This news comes days before she guest-starred on the NBC sitcom Happy’s Place, where the actress reunited with former Reba co-stars Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman for the March 13 episode.
Hopefully, this holds us over before we head back to Serenity this summer!
