9-1-1 fans, we have some news you’ll definitely want to pay attention to.

As new episodes continue to drop on Thursday nights on ABC, viewers are eager to follow the lives of those working at the 118. Whether it be watching their personal lives clash with their work (um, we’re looking right at you, Buck [Oliver Stark]!), dangerous emergencies, or any other twists and turns involving the cast, it’s clear that people love to see whatever comes their way.

While 9-1-1 is still a smash hit for ABC (and it’s coming back for season 10!), we hate to break this piece of information to you. Unfortunately, a new episode of 9-1-1 isn’t airing tonight—and we found out the reason why.

When does 9-1-1 season nine return with new episodes?

It’s time to mark your calendars—9-1-1 season 9 will return with new episodes on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Why isn't 9-1-1 on tonight?

As for the reason why 9-1-1 isn’t airing a new episode, it’s because the show is currently taking a small hiatus. In fact, the show’s official Instagram revealed this change in schedule with a video featuring Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, and Elijah M. Cooper on April 9.

“You have 3 weeks to rest and recharge 🫡 ,” the caption read. “See you April 30th!”

Upon learning about this TV switch-up, 9-1-1 fans had some thoughts about it online.

“It’s diabolical to take a 3-week break for only 2 more episodes 😂,” one person wrote in the comments. “Hope y'all enjoy your break. Love you guys!” another wrote. “Oh man! I was REALLY looking forward to another episode tonight. 😮 lol!” a different follower added.

Even though there’s still some time before a new 9-1-1 episode premieres, we do have some clues as to what the installment will be about. According to a press release from ABC, the April 30 episode (titled “I Got You Babe”) will see the 118 as they encounter multiple emergencies. One involves a child and a high-voltage tower, while another is a boat accident happening in the middle of a freeway. All the while, the team may be in danger, leading to unexpected consequences.

Well, we’re definitely hooked and can’t wait for 9-1-1’s return!
