Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings was a former contestant, winning 74 games and earning $2,520,700.

On April 17, the TV star was asked for his thoughts on whether current contestant Jamie Ding, who’s appeared on 28 episodes and made $774,601 so far, could potentially beat his Jeopardy! streak.

Fans reacted online after seeing Ken’s surprising answer.

Is someone finally going to break Ken Jennings’ incredible record for the most games played in Jeopardy!? According to Ken, it’s definitely a possibility.

Viewers know Ken from 2004, when he was onJeopardy!. At the time, he shocked everyone with how much trivia he knew—and how much money he made. By the time Ken finished his run on the show, he had appeared in 74 games and earned $2,520,700. And what’s even more impressive is that no one has been able to beat Ken’s record for the most episodes competed in … until, possibly, right now.

Current contestant Jamie Ding has appeared on 28 episodes and made $774,601 thus far, per Jeopardy!’s Leaderboard of Legends. So, it makes sense someone would ask Ken, the current Jeopardy! host, for his thoughts about Jamie’s success.

“What will you do if Jamie goes beyond your lead?” an audience member asked Ken in a behind-the-scenes clip on Instagram on April 17.

“I see. Like if he were, to say, hypothetically, win game number 75? That would be a record that nobody’s beaten for 20-odd years,” Ken responded before making a joke. “I would be very excited, actually. Are you imagining me just getting more and more pissed with every game? If he wins, I’ll eat my hat!“

This led the same audience member to ask Ken for a more detailed answer.

“I’m, of course, perfectly impartial every game, but I actually believe that my record can be beaten,” he added. “I just hope I am hosting when it happens.”

When fans heard Ken’s true thoughts, they joined the conversation on social media.

“This is the mark of a great champion—not just understanding that their records are temporary, but hoping they get to see the next generation surpass their achievements. 👏,” one person wrote in the comments. “A perfect example of why Ken is my hero ❤️,” another agreed. “Ken vs Jamie final for 75,” a different follower added.

Now, we don’t actually know what the future holds for Jamie. But after this, we’re on the edge of our seats.
