As season 8 of The Rookie approaches its May 4 finale, it looks like something major is on the horizon for our favorite LAPD Mid-Wilshire couple.
Throughout the season, viewers have tuned in to see Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and Lucy Chen’s (Melissa O’Neil) romance. And given how the couple, who are affectionately called “Chenford,” have been on an upswing lately, it makes sense they’d want to take the next step in their relationship.
It seems Tim is looking to do just that, as fans saw in the April 20 episode of The Rookie. But it came with some unexpected challenges, as Tim’s mom, Joy (Sela Ward), brought his grandmother’s ring for the proposal—and Tim didn’t love it.
“I brought Grandma’s ring,” Joy told Tim in the clip that was released on Instagram shortly before the episode aired. “[Lucy’s] not here, is she? No? I’m sorry. I’m so excited!”
“Mom!” Tim exclaimed in response. “Wait—you just travel with Grandma’s ring?”
“Well, my lord, you introduced me to Lucy, and she’s so fabulous!” Joy added. “And I thought I'd better be prepared.”
When fans realized the show was teasing an engagement, they had to share their thoughts.
“OH MY GOSH CHENFORD PROPOSAL! This is what the people want to see 😍😍😍,” one person shouted in the comments. “CHENFORD PROPOSAL IS HAPPENING I FEEL ABSOLUTELY SICK,” another exclaimed. “OH MY GOD THE ENGAGEMENT IS ACTUALLY ABOUT TO BE REAL,” a different follower added.
