• Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappuccino is returning this summer for a limited time.
  • The colorful drink first launched in 2017 and became a major Instagram trend.
  • Starbucks hasn’t announced the exact date yet, but says it will “close out the summer.”

Introduced in 2017, Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappuccino quickly cemented itself as one of the coffee chain’s most iconic drinks. The Frappuccino capitalized on the unicorn trend at the time, when Instagram was full of photos of pastel hair dye, unicorn bark, and unicorn-themed birthday parties. Even Christian Louboutin dropped a pair of sequinned boots, which were dubbed “unicorn skin” by celebrity stylist Samantha McMillen. Fans of the trend will be happy to learn that the Unicorn Frappuccino is making a glorious comeback this summer.

This isn’t the Frappuccino’s first return. Almost 10 years after its initial release, the Unicorn Frappuccino made a short comeback for Coachella in April of this year. While it excited those who loved the drink and those who missed out in 2017, it was only available at the Starbucks coffeehouse on the festival grounds.

This time, it will be available to everyone—though only for a short time.

What’s a Unicorn Frappuccino?

The Unicorn Frappuccino became trendy for its dreamy, pastel colors. The recipe consisted of a mango syrup, mixed with pink powder, sweet pink and sour blue swirls, and topped with whipped cream and more pink and blue powder. While it was only available for five days, the drink famously drove immense traffic to stores and caused long lines in the drive-throughs. Everyone wanted to participate in the #unicornfrappuccino trend before it was over, and if you never tried it, then you most likely felt FOMO—I’m speaking for myself here.

How can I try the Unicorn Frappuccino?

Earlier this week, Starbucks announced the Frappuccino’s second comeback for a weekend later this summer in coffeehouses across the U.S. and around the world. Although the brand hasn’t revealed the exact date, it said it was meant to “close out the summer.” We expect that means it’ll be at least July or August before we see this Frappuccino.

If, like me, you didn’t get to try it in 2017, this will be your chance.
