At its most basic, simple syrup is made from equal parts water and sugar. We jazzed up that recipe with cherries, black peppercorns and lemon juice to create a sweet-tart elixir that instantly boosts any iced beverage. For even more oomph? Use lemon thyme or lemon basil to garnish your drink, or add a few sprigs as the cocktail syrup cools.
Makes 1/2 cup.
