A pocket knife makes a great gift for the person who seemingly has everything. And one of my all-time favorites, the Gerber Paraframe, is currently 24% off for Prime Day.
I've carried and used plenty of pocket knives over the years, and what I like most about the Paraframe is how little you notice it, but it’s there when you need it. The stainless-steel knife weighs just 2.6 ounces, so you hardly know it's in your pocket, but its 3-inch blade is big enough for the everyday jobs I expect a utility knife to handle.
The open-frame handle is a big part of the appeal for me. Besides trimming unnecessary weight, all those exposed edges give my fingers more places to grip the knife securely. The opening action is also smooth and quick, and the thumb stud makes it easy to deploy the blade with one hand. Once open, a frame lock holds the blade in place.
Gerber offers the Paraframe with either a straight or partially serrated edge. I prefer the serrated version. The plain section handles everyday slicing, while the serrations bite into tougher materials like cord, rope, and zip ties with less effort. Around the house, I use mine for opening boxes, cutting twine, and tackling other small jobs where a box cutter isn’t quite durable enough. On camping trips and hikes, it's handy for cutting paracord, opening packaging, and dealing with other quick trail tasks.
At about 4 inches long when folded and 7 inches long when open, the Paraframe is also just the right size for everyday carry. The pocket clip holds it snug against the inside of a pocket, where it stays secure and relatively discreet instead of bouncing around loose with your keys or wallet.
One thing to keep in mind: The minimalist open frame doesn't provide the cushioned, hand-filling feel of a knife with a rubber or molded handle. If I'm doing a lot of repetitive cutting, I'd rather have something beefier. But for an everyday pocket knife that's light, simple, and always within reach, that's a trade-off I'm happy to make.
At this Prime Day price, the Paraframe is an easy gift for a handy homeowner, camper, or DIYer. It's affordable enough that you can grab one for them and one for yourself.
