Green paint enthusiasts, this one’s for you—Behr has officially announced its 10th color of the year, a beautiful mossy olive known as Grounded (T27-01). The shade boasts subtle brown undertones and “reflects a shift toward homes that restore and reconnect us with nature,” according to the paint brand’s press announcement.
Grounded, sold exclusively at The Home Depot, is reflective of 77 % of Americans’ desire to “turn to nature when life feels chaotic,” Behr noted in its press release. Specifically, the paint company stated, “Grounded is designed to help you transition from the day’s high-energy buzz into a more rhythmic, calming state.”
While Behr will sometimes draw from its existing rolodex of hues when selecting the color of the year, Grounded is a never-before-seen shade. “We knew that we needed to make a color that specifically landed that feeling of earth and nature in one color,” says Kayla Kratz, Behr’s senior director of color & design strategy.
Keep in mind that spending time outdoors isn’t the only activity that helps Behr survey respondents feel more at peace—home improvement tasks are also paramount. As Behr data indicates, “Over four in five Americans say home DIY and design projects help them feel grounded by allowing them to build a safe, comforting haven where they can fully retreat and recharge.”
So if you’ve been looking for a good excuse to pick up that paintbrush and engage in a room redo, consider this your sign! Paint is always an extremely powerful way to transform any room on a budget. Refreshing your walls with a color like Grounded “reignites the space and livens it without having to change any of the furniture,” Kratz says.
Though Grounded is the star of the show for 2027, next year’s Trends Palette—the brand’s way of making it easy for customers to find complementary hues for their space—contains a number of other compelling hues. Take your pick of warm neutrals and beiges; earthy greens, rich browns, and soft grays; muted pinks and clay tones; soft blues and blue-grays; and deep, moody hues. The 2026 Color of the Year, Hidden Gem (N-430-6A), a blue-green shade, remains a fixture in the 2027 palette, too.
Note that colors from Behr’s Trends Palette shine when paired with Grounded. In this bathroom, for example, Environmental (PPU11-09) graces the walls while Grounded coats the ceiling, adding dimension and visual interest to the space. “You don't have to limit yourself to one green,” Kratz said. “You can absolutely layer the greens with this palette.”
