Some things in your house you can live with despite their awkwardness—like a less-than-pretty radiator or a tiny built-in nook that requires some creativity to make the most of. Other home features, well, they start wearing on you every day to the point you can’t help but warn others of the potential woe they bring upon your house.
Reddit users recently flooded a post where another asked, “What home feature is an absolute ‘never again’ after living with it?” The responses were plentiful and insightful, and a few surprising features ended up on the list.
Barn Doors
While barn doors take up a minimal amount of space compared to traditional doors that swing open, Reddit users lamented their lack of privacy. They’re especially not ideal for bedrooms or bathrooms.
Spiral Staircase
While a beautiful architectural feature, users said it was hard to move large items, like mattresses, furniture, and appliances, up and down spiral staircases.
Butterfly Sink
This is a type of double sink that feature two distinct sides versus one large basin. The unique design can be visually appealing, but the chief complaint is that it doesn’t maximize available space and makes it hard to do the dishes.
Pool
Pools came up several times, with people citing everything from maintenance headaches to unexpectedly high costs.
Skylight
Extra light sounds nice in theory, but Reddit users complained of condensation dripping from above and poor temperature regulation.
Clawfoot Tub
This one came up a couple times as well. One user wrote, “I have to deal with a 360 shower curtain and step up into/down out of the tub way higher than if it were just a regular tub.”
