Historically, kitchens have often skewed toward “safe design” territory, relying on neutral shades like cream, beige, and white as a backdrop for everything else. As a more maximalist mindset takes hold, though, people are daring to branch out in this cooking space and expressing themselves through color.
We spoke with a handful of interior designers about which statement-making kitchen paint colors are poised to really take off in 2027, and many agreed on one color family taking the cake.
2027’s Bold Kitchen Color Trend
The trending kitchen paint color that kept coming up in our conversations with interior designers was deep, muted aubergine. A little moody and undeniably sophisticated, this reddish-purple hue instantly brings warmth and depth to the kitchen.
Swati Goorha, founder and principal designer of Swati Goorha Design, says she’s especially seeing an uptick in aubergine kitchens with brown or burgundy undertones.
“Although purple might seem as an odd color for use in kitchens, I find that the darker, earthy type colors can appear quite sophisticated and near neutral when used with complementary surfaces,” she says.
Interior designer Sasha Bikoff agrees, adding that she’s generally seeing kitchen color palettes moving toward a more romantic, organic, and garden-inspired direction.
If you crave a brighter spin on aubergine, she recommends veering more toward a mulberry hue reminiscent of berries ripening in a lush summer garden. She says, “These colors have a beautiful depth and sensuality to them, creating kitchens that feel warm, intimate, and incredibly chic.”

Tips for Designing an Aubergine Kitchen
Plum, aubergine, and berry shades all pair beautifully with warm woods (like walnut), marble, old brass hardware, and soft, cream-colored neutrals. And you can also enjoy the colors in both small and large doses.
For example, use one of these saturated colors on a kitchen island or lower cabinetry for just a touch, or consider color drenching the space by painting walls and cabinetry the same hue.
Bikoff adds that these pairings offer a combination that creates a beautiful balance between traditional romance and modern sophistication.
