Now that’s what we call a makeover! Katie Holmes has been spotted with a fresh new hair look and we can’t take our eyes off it. The actress, 47, was snapped out and about in New York, her hair having undergone a radical redo that makes her look very different. Not only has it been chopped from mid-back to mid-length for the first time in years, but her dark brunette has also been swapped for a sunny caramel shade. And yes, she looks completely incredible.

Katie’s hair transformation completely changes her look

‘This is a completely transformative look that Katie has gone for. It really works for her and proves that the right cut and colour can take years off of you,’ says celebrity hairstylist and Studio23 founder Jason Collier.

Katie’s new length is a brilliant example of a look that Jason has seen taking over the hair world this season. ‘The mid-length cut has become a go-to for spring, and Katie has really nailed it,’ he says. ‘It’s the perfect balance of undone effortlessness while still looking incredibly chic. The collarbone-grazing length is so flattering, giving movement while still feeling full and healthy.’

‘There’s a real shift towards effortless beauty right now and a mid-length cut like Katie’s delivers exactly that,’ he adds. ‘It’s long enough to feel feminine and versatile, but short enough to look fresh and intentional. After years of either ultra-long lengths or sharp bobs dominating, this in-between length feels modern, low-maintenance and incredibly wearable for everyday life.’

Katie’s new lighter colour complements that fresh feel perfectly, being perfect for both the new season and for her complexion. ‘The lighter colour lifts her whole look, adding warmth and dimension for that fresh, radiant finish,’ he adds. ‘Paired with soft, subtle layers and an undone wave, it feels modern, wearable and easy to style at home.’

It’s a move he’s seeing echoes of in his own salon. ‘The classic blunt “lob” isn’t going anywhere, but it’s evolving,’ he says. ‘Blunt lobs are still a staple because they give that clean, expensive finish, but we’re definitely seeing a move towards softer, more lived-in shapes. Think invisible layers, feathered ends and slightly undone textures.’

It’s a complete transformation from Katie’s old long, brunette locks

Jason notes that it’s a really adaptable hairstyle and it can be tailored to work beautifully for mature and thinning locks. ‘For finer hair, ask your hairdresser to keep the ends blunt, as this will help create the illusion of thickness,’ he says. ‘It can also be transformed with the addition of a fringe – this can help add more personality. A curtain fringe, for example, works well to create a relaxed, effortless feel, while a blunt fringe can make it more structured and polished.’

Better yet, it’s a low-maintenance style at its core — in fact, he says overstyling can make it look dated. ‘Right now, it’s about enhancing your natural texture, whether that’s a soft bend, a loose wave or a sleek, air-dried finish. A slightly imperfect, tousled look feels the most current. Even when using tools, you want to break up the waves and keep it relaxed rather than overly polished.’

Chic, flattering and easy – does it get better than that?
