As a Doctor Who icon, Billie Piper is no stranger to time travel, but her latest beauty look is a real-life timeline rewind. The actress, 43, just debuted an incredible bob hair transformation, and it’s no exaggeration to say it takes years off.
If the TARDIS had a hair salon tucked away somewhere, her picture would 100% be up on the wall.
Billie, best known for playing assistant Rose Tyler in the sci-fi show, unveiled a genuinely show-stopping makeover at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend. Her hair is now a good few inches shorter, falling to a chin length bob, and styled into retro flicks. It all adds up to a playful, slightly-kitsch look that's effortlessly fresh and youthful.
A dramatic side parting and softly back-combed top section added to the throwback feel. Had The Doctor decided to land the phone box in the 1950s, Billie would have fitted right in.
The cut isn’t the only transformation at play with her hair, though. Her colour has also been softened from a rich red to a soft, sandy shade that adds to the chic, youthful effect.
Billie's makeup is equally flattering. Created by top industry MUA James Molloy, Billie’s look is all about softly-blurred glam, pairing rose shades across lips, cheeks and eyes for a seamlessly polished effect.
Billie unveiled the new look as she promoted her upcoming film Elsinore in Toronto alongside her co-star Andrew Scott, and was showered with compliments on her hairdresser Ross Kwan’s Instagram.
Billie has already shown the versatility of her new style, wearing it in soft, beachy waves at the Festival’s ‘Road To The Golden Globes’ Kick-Off Party.
And of course, Billie is no stranger to a hair makeover. Just last year, she switched to a bright blonde shade to promote her role in Wednesday before landing on her more recent deep red colour. But if we had to pick a favourite, her latest is an all-time winner.
How to get the look
'I’m really loving the new hair cut as not only does it have that more youthful, playful look, but the shorter hair draws more attention to her beautiful face and bone structure,’ says Jake Nugent, OSMO Ambassador and colour expert, who broke down Billie's new look for GH. ‘It’s showing how versatile the bob cut is – faking the fringe by purposely styling her hair across her forehead makes it a whole new look for Billie.”
'Her new colour is ideal for the upcoming autumnal months,' he adds. 'It’s the perfect time of year to play around with these types of shades.'
Her hair cut shape is 'very strong and modern, and it doesn’t look too heavy or harsh either,’ says Jake. ‘If you want a similar cut from your stylist, ask them for a chin length bob with minimal layering for a little bit of movement.’
To get this new colour, Jake thinks there has been some very careful colour processing happening with Billie and her colourist. ‘They’ve perhaps used some clever bleaching to strip back her previous darker hair colour to ensure the hair quality is kept,' he says. 'I expect they’ve also added in a ‘plex product to ensure the integrity of the hair is protected. OSMO has its in-salon treatment range Chromaplex that we’d use for this type of colour transformation. She’s not gone blonde-blonde – it’s definitely on the sandy blonde/brown tone. It’s far warmer than the previous red colour and really complements her own warm skin tone.'
