When A-list manicurists have been demanding their ‘dream’ neutral nail polish for years, you know it’ll be worth the wait. Now OPI has finally given in to their pleas and launched the colour being hailed as the ‘perfect’ youthful manicure: Bubble Bunny.
For a bit of context, manicurists have long been layering two iconic OPI polish shades, starting with the delicate, pale pink Bubble Bath and adding off-white Funny Bunny to create the ultimate milky manicure. It’s a simple yet elegant look that’s been copied endlessly by beauty editors, influencers and amateur nail enthusiasts alike.
Now OPI has bottled these two fan-favourites into one pre-mixed shade – OPI'm A Bubble Bunny – saving everyone the time and bother of layering two shades upon one. Because, honestly, who has time to watch paint dry?
It’s news welcomed by A-list manicurist Jenni Draper, who paints the nails of everyone from Elizabeth Hurley and Hannah Waddingham to Penelope Cruz and Victoria Beckham.
She’s got a keen eye for the nail polish colours that immediately flatter the hands of her clientele, and tells us that finding a good, youthful-looking neutral can be trickier than you realise.
‘You have to avoid anything that's got too much white in it,’ she says. ‘A very stark white is not very youthful. You want something quite light, soft and spring-like for a flattering, youthful look – Bubble Bunny is a perfect example of that. Pastels are good as well.’
For darker shades, ‘avoid anything with anything too blue or too much like green, as it emphasises hand veins,’ she says. The exceptions would be ‘very dark spring green’ colours.
Returning to neutral colours, she has a clever hack for finding what suits you. ‘A neutral has to complement your individual skin tone, so a good way to check that is to put Sellotape on the back of your hand and just try a couple of testers on there. You’ll easily see what goes and what doesn't.’
Bubble Bunny is the stand-out shade of OPI's 45th anniversary collection, and gets a polished thumbs-up from GH beauty assistant Zara. 'I put it on quickly in the beauty cupboard so I didn't do the proper manicure prep, but I really liked it,' she reports.
She confirms this sheer pretty pink 'paints on easily, and goes with everything in your wardrobe'. It's one we'll be wearing all spring.
