There’s nothing quite like finding your perfect match – and by that, we mean lipstick. The right shade can work wonders, lifting the complexion and lending a more youthful-looking glow. If you need proof, look no further than Queen Camilla’s latest Royal Ascot appearance.
The Queen, 78, was spotted at the races over the weekend, looking elegant as ever. Amid her colourful ensembles and statement brooches, we couldn’t help but be particularly entranced by one detail: her statement pink lip.
If we’ve ever seen a perfect shade, this is it. A vivid, radiant pink that instantly brightens the face and adds a fresh, flattering finish.
‘Picking the right pink for you can lift your entire complexion,’ says top makeup artist and founder Ruby Hammer. ‘The shade Camilla has gone for adds instant warmth and vibrancy across her whole face.’
She explains, ‘Pink can make the whites of your eyes or teeth look white, it can counteract sallowness or tiredness in the skin… giving the illusion of a full night’s sleep in a swipe’ — something we can very much appreciate.
According to Ruby, vivid pinks can be flattering at any age. ‘There is a common misconception that as we get older we should wear beiges or nudes, whereas in reality they can be draining and make our faces look washed out,’ she says.
‘A bright pink adds instant life back into the face, drawing attention to a smile and adding joy without looking like you are trying too hard.’
While Camilla seems to have her shade matching down to a T, if you’re on the hunt for your own perfect pink, Ruby recommends considering your undertones. ‘If you are cool toned, look for blue-based pinks or berries, and if you are warmer, a punchy watermelon or coral pink.’
Of course, beyond the shade, getting the right finish is important, too. For an ageless look, Ruby recommends investing in hydrating formulas. ‘Forget rigid rules and look at texture and comfort first,’ she says. ‘Heavy mattes can cling to lines. Hybrid formulas, like my Lip Serum Balm, offer a hit of colour with some shine.’
So if you’ve been reaching for the same nude lipstick for years (guilty), consider this your sign to switch things up.
