Remember the days of the chocolate advent calendar which had one square of chocolate in each window in the shape of… yeah, couldn’t tell you what most of them were. Well, we’ve come a long way.
LEGO have been upping the ante on the festive advent calendar for years. But in 2026 the LEGO City advent calendar might have quietly outdone itself and the entire competition. And what better to way to block out the festive/global madness with a few mindful moments of LEGO building after breakfast. These things may be aimed at ages 5+ but it’s more wholesome than a calendar full of ‘interesting’ tasting gin that goes undrunk.
What’s in the LEGO City advent calendar
This year’s LEGO City edition is a charmingly camp Christmas workshop theme to rival the RuPaul’s Drag Race workroom. Take for example exhibit one. The minifig to trump all minifigs this season. Let’s call it ‘hot off-duty Santa’.
Yep, Santa in his civvies. That’s braces, casual flannel granddad shirt and what looks like… lederhosen or just workwear trousers? Fine silver beard and moustache are also in place as expected. If you know someone who was a fan of Netflix’s Hot Frosty or The Merry Gentlemen from 2024 and they like LEGO, then this is the calendar for them.
What else is in the LEGO City Advent Calendar?
The kitsch does not end there. Squint and you can make out a hot chocolate or eggnog latte station with whipped cream. There’s a snowman in an ugly Christmas jumper and a cart for pushing presents. There is a Mrs Claus minifig that looks like she’s stepped out of an M&S Christmas advert with Helen Mirren bob (No bad LEGO hair here).
There are also two elves and a post box with tiny letters and a pigeon on top. The significance of the pigeon took some working out – but it’s a carrier pigeon of course. And to add to the festive factory theme a clockwork penguin coming straight of a workbench. And finally, a second Santa, fully clothed this time, is also included in the set.
How much is the LEGO CITY Advent Calendar?
The LEGO City 2026 Advent Calendar is out now priced £22.99 for ages 5+. Using elf maths, with 24 days to Christmas and a door for each, that’s about 96p per door. But what price magic?
What other LEGO advent calendars are available?
LEGO Star Wars advent calendar 2026 (ages 6+, £29.99) – 2026’s Star Wars calendar is giving the Mandalorian meets The Star Wars Holiday Special with Grogu and Din Djarin in ugly Christmas jumpers. Cute.
LEGO Marvel advent calendar 2026 (ages 6+, £29.99) – Any idea where we left off in the Marvel franchise ahead of Avengers: Doomsday which arrives in cinemas in December? This calendar is unlikely to help although it has some great minifigs including Dr Doom, Ghost Spider, Iron Man, Captain America and Wolverine.
LEGO Disney Princess advent calendar 2026 (ages 5+, £29.99) – There are 13 official Disney princesses. Four are included in the 2026 calendar – Moana, Mulan, Cinderella and Ariel along with their sidekicks - even the long forgotten Gus (a mouse).
