A burger of epic proportions is a great way to spend an afternoon lolling about in the garden, BBQ lit, friends chatting and most importantly, a glass of something cold in your hand. Beer may be the obvious burger companion, but wine deserves a place at the barbecue too. Here we've rounded up four of our best burger recipes, with a bottle to suit every bun.

1

Crispy fried feta burger

crispy fish sandwiches with red onion, spinach, and creamy sauce on a rustic board.

Sensational spanakopita vibes are very much present in this crunchy, cheesy burger.

Pair with: Assyrtiko – saline, citrusy and cuts through the fried feta while complementing the herbs. Sauvignon Blanc also works.

Harissa lamb burger with pistachio pesto

three gourmet burgers with toppings on a tray with skewers.

A little goes a long way with harissa and when paired with juicy dried apricots and lamb mince, you get these delightfully spiced burgers.

Pair with: Australian shiraz – the peppery notes echo the harissa while the ripe fruit softens the spice. A juicy chilled garnacha is another excellent choice.

Korean fried chicken burger

Quick kimchi pickles add punchy flavor to every bite of this crispy fried chicken burger.

Pair with: Off-dry Riesling – a touch of sweetness balances the salty, spicy, umami flavours and refreshes the palate. Alternatively, dry Gewürztraminer, or for a non-alcoholic option, try a Yuzu soda.
