As a mum of three and daily presenter on prime-time TV, One Show presenter Alex Jones needs to be efficient about her diet and exercise regime. ‘I simply can’t find the time to dedicate to fitness – I don’t have a trainer, or anything like that,’ says Alex 49. ‘Instead, I try to do “exercise snacking” – it's changed my life. I’ll be getting the children into their uniforms and pick up a weight, then swap it over to the other side.’
When she’s dropped the children at school, Alex continues her role as a master multitasker, combining exercise with spending precious time with her husband, Charlie, and their two-year-old black labrador, Scout. ‘Charlie and I take Scout to Windsor Great Park for an an hour and a half’s walk,’ she says.’ I find this really helpful, physically and mentally.’
These walks help perk Alex up after many a broken night’s sleep. ‘I probably sleep an average of six hours: sometimes it’s four, sometimes seven,’ she says. ‘I fall asleep fine, but then I might wake up to find one of my children standing by the bed. Because I’m often not there in the evenings to put them to bed, I’ll often let one of the kids climb in. My sister keeps telling me that I’m too soft.’
‘Sunday was a nightmare: because my sister was staying, and our spare rooms were full, I spent half the night in Annie’s cot bed.’
Alex (Jones) was the special guest host for Benecol's 'Live More' event, a celebration aimed at mid-lifers designed to champion positive ageing, reinvention and living well for longer.
