Shark is known for its pioneering air styling tools, and its very first LED face mask, the CryoGlow, shot straight to the top of the Good Housekeeping Institute’s best of list, with a score of 92/100, thanks to the mix of red and blue light and innovative cooling tech.
So, when the brand called its most recent release the “most innovative high-tech LED system yet”, we had to dive into the whats and whys of this groundbreaking design. The new CryoGlow Clinic Face and Body System is a two-in-one LED face mask and body panel that can be used to target signs of ageing across the chest, neck, hands and back, as well as the face. Here’s everything you need to know about the exciting new launch.
Shark CryoGlow Clinic Face and Body System at a glance
- Can be used on the face and body
- Targets eight ageing zones: forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, lines around the lips, neck, chest, and hands.
- Uses three different light types: blue, red, near infrared
- Has integrated dual temperature therapy: hot and cold
- Option to buy the mask and body panel individually
For the first time, Shark has released wearable LED technology that treats both the face and body. You can purchase both the face mask and body panel in the set, but they can also be purchased separately – ideal if you already have the Shark CryoGlow Mask and want to add the body attachment.
The ArcFlex technology, aka the body panel’s adjustable ergonomic design, means it will comfortably sit on the chest, neck, back and hands, and work to reduce visible signs of ageing in those areas. If you want to target a crepey chest, there’s also a convenient Velcro strap you can fasten around your neck to keep it firmly in place. For the hands, you simply fold the neck strap into the two smaller side panels of the plate, and voila, it sits across them, a little like a gel manicure machine.
There are seventeen different routine options available to help you target different skin concerns, such as Wrinkle Repair, Balance and Clear, Under-Eye Revive and Skin Sustain, which can all be controlled and selected via the connecting remote, making it super easy to use.
Does the Shark CryoGlow Clinic mask have under-eye cooling?
Yes, it offers the same cooling tech as the CryoGlow Mask. In fact, the Clinic Mask has been updated to offer hot and cold therapy across multiple treatments.
There’s the InstaChill undereye feature, which you can think of as a fancy tech version of the old cucumber-under-the-eyes trick, but obviously a little more complicated than that. The mask uses to undereye panels to create a cooling effect that depuffs and soothes tired eyes. There’s also the Dual-Temp Restore mode, which alternates between hot and cool temperatures to help increase circulation and depuff.
Should I use Shark CryoGlow Clinic before or after skincare?
“LED masks should be used before skincare on clean skin,” says Juliet Heaton, the Good Housekeeping Institute’sbeauty testing manager. “This helps to keep the mask clean and in good condition and allows for maximum penetration of the wavelengths emitted by the LED.”
Make sure that you remove all makeup and cleanse your face use to lift any debris and buildup from the day. This means that no excess sebum or clogged pores stand in the way of your skin soaking in all the benefits of the LED lights.
How soon can I expect to see results from Shark CryoGlow Clinic?
“Four weeks is the minimum amount of time we would expect to see results after using an LED mask consistently,” says Juliet. “Blemishes, fine lines and texture can be improved after this amount of time. However, even better results, such as improvements in the appearance of deeper wrinkles, dark circles or scars, should be seen after longer, consistent use,” she adds.
To see its full potential and maximise results, it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines around treatment times and consistency. It’s generally recommended that you use the mask three-to-five times a week, with treatment times varying from 8-12 minutes.
Results will also depend on your skin concern and the light type you use, and Sharks’s new tool offers multiple options. If you’re looking to clear blemishes or mild acne, then Precision Blue is the light for you. To reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and smooth your overall complexion, Red and Deep Infrared are the recommended settings. While you can use each light in isolation, there are a range of treatments that use a combination of different colours to target multiple concerns at once, and leave your skin glowing, of course.
Handily, the Clinic’s remote already has a range of pre-programmed light settings to flit through, from Ultimate Anti-Ageing to the blemish-clearing Balance and Clear, and the everyday Daily Skin Defence.
It’s also worth noting that the lights used on this mask and panel are tri-wick LEDs, which basically offer the power of three bulbs in one.
First impressions
But what’s it like to use? Our lifestyle writer, Maddie Evans, is always keen to try the latest beauty cosmetics and gadgets, and she got her hands on the CryoGlow Clinic System to give her initial verdict.
“I’ll be honest, I’ve struggled to stay consistent with LED masks in the past – it just seemed like a bit of a faff to have to commit to treatments multiple times a week. But putting on the Shark CryoGlow Clinic genuinely feels like a real treat. The quality design feels comfortable on the face, and the accompanying remote control makes it simple to navigate. It also monitors your treatment progress to help keep you on track, which is what I need. Next, they should be able to send a reminder notification to my phone!
“It’s really simple to adjust the straps to fit the size of your head and the mask felt completely comfortable on my face during the treatment time. I was even more impressed with the ergonomic design of the body panel though, and it’seasy to adjust it to sit on multiple target areas, such as your hands or chest, making it a real multitasker. It’s a great alternative to going into the clinic for multiple face and body LED treatments.”
The verdict
When it comes to an LED masking, the CryoGlow Clinic seems to have it all. It’s the only mask on the market that harnesses thermal therapy too, which really helps it stand out from the rest, and is a great feature to use at the end of the day.
It is a hefty investment, but it’s a sophisticated, versatile piece of at home equipment, and if the long-term results are anything like the CryoGlow mask, then it’s certain to pay off in smoother, brighter skin. It’s also worth noting that all parts are available to purchase separately, so there’s the option to focus on just the face or the body area. You can secure an all-over glow for £80 less if you purchase both together, though.
While we’ll need to use it for at least four weeks to see visible skin results (we’ll bring you the GHI results as soon as testing is complete), if it’s anything like the original CryoGlow mask, we’re extremely optimistic.
