One of the best parts about being one of Good Housekeeping’s homes writers is trying a constant stream of cosy blankets over the years – from luxury wool designs and chunky knits to heated blankets and indulgent throws. But none of these amazing blankets have ever managed to replace the one I bought to take to uni over eight years ago: Bedsure’s Sherpa Fleece Blanket.
It's reversible, with a coloured velvety flannel finish on one side and a white ultra-soft sherpa material on the other. Despite years of use and being trailed through various flat shares, it’s still incredibly soft and comforting and looks almost as good as new with no loose stitches or signs of serious wear.
Here’s why it’s the blanket I always recommend.
It’s super soft and cosy
This soft blanket has been through many years with me and has always provided comfort. The velvety side feels luxurious while the sherpa finish adds a good amount of weight and warmth. It’s just the right thickness so it’s not too hot or too cold – a goldilocks level of cosiness.
The sherpa side has lost its fluffiness over the years but that’s to be expected when I’m using it so often. Be sure to wash it at low temperatures without fabric softener to keep it at its best for longer.
When tested at the Good Housekeeping Institute, it scored 83/100 and panellists rated it highly for its soft and inviting material, and liked how it was warm without being stifling.
It comes in a range of sizes and colours
With four sizes and 19 colours available, there are so many options to choose from. The sizes range from 130 x 150cm (just smaller than a double bed) up to 270 x 230cm (bigger than a super king bed) so it’s perfect for one or you can find something for curling up under with a partner.
As well as snuggling up under it on the sofa and for layering it on top of my duvet during the winter months, I also use it when the weather starts getting warmer. Perhaps I’m crazy but I love to swap out my regular duvet for this lighter-weight blanket. It’s ideal for that in-between weather, before I then swap to a sheet (and employ an array of fans) during heatwaves.
It’s durable and long-lasting
Basically, I use this blanket all year round for both comfort and warmth. That’s why I’m almost surprised at how durable it is.
While the sherpa has lost some of its fluffiness, the only sign of wear and tear is that the care label is a little frayed and faded. The rest is still in great condition, and I have no doubt I’ll be using it for more years to come.
In fact, it may be time to add another colour to my supply, so I have a backup when the original is in the wash!
