There are so many different scenarios—and now, so many different kinds of twin strollers.
Our top picks:
- Best Overall: Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller 3.0

As a mom of two who has covered the stroller market for 26 years, including the last four years for the Good Housekeeping Institute, I recognize that the best double stroller for one family might not be the best for another. This list has choices. I prioritized brands and models that have been proven winners on the market, and that have been tested by our own Lab experts as well as consumer-testing families during the past six years.
Pros
Goes from single to double or triple, then back again
Versatile, easy-to-change configurations
Large basket, unique leg shade, huge canopy
Rolls easily and smoothly
Magnetic buckles
Adaptors can hold 40+ different car seats
Cons
Must buy add-ons, like a second seat, separately
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: Mockingbird's stroller starts as a single stroller, can become a double (or even a triple), then goes back to being a single when you need it to.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: The versatility of this is genius. But to take advantage of the 44 possible configurations you need to buy add-ons such as a second seat, bassinet, car seat adaptor, or a ride-on board—separately.
The basket is deep and holds up to 25 pounds of cargo, so this is useful for parents who find themselves hauling a lot of stuff around. Rubber wheels and all-wheel suspension help this roll easily and smoothly.
This 3.0 version added a unique leg shade for full sun protection, a larger canopy that’s height-adjustable, magnetic buckles, and adaptors that can handle more than 40 different car seats.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: Home testers praised the stroller's easy setup out of the box. One said it “felt comparable to a $1,500 stroller” they’d used, adding, “It maneuvered like butter.” Another said, "The stroller is great for families looking for a flexible, long-term stroller system."
Stefani Sassos, Nutrition & Fitness Lab Director and a mom of two, agrees. "I love the flexibility of the Mockingbird. It was heavy when my 3-year-old and baby were both in it, but it's so customizable," she said. "For instance, I could easily remove the toddler seat and use just the bassinet for a walk with the infant and then add the toddler seat back later, when I had both kids with me."

Pros
Under $300
Ideal for getting kids through stores and airports
Folds in half and has a carry strap
Has canopies and a basket, which other bargains lack
Grab bars can hold toys
Cons
Plastic wheels are not all-terrain
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: It's an affordable price (under $300) for a stroller that comfortably holds two kids ages 6 months and up.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: This stroller is perfect for daily errands and short jaunts. If you're looking for a way to easily move two kids through an airport or down the aisles of your local grocery and big-box stores, this could be it.
The Jeep Destination folds in half and includes a carry strap. The wheels spin and turn well, but they're plastic and not robust for all terrain.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: I like that this has bigger canopies than other umbrella double strollers, and it has individual grab bars, which you can use to hang toys. This also has a shallow basket, better than the ultra cheap models that have no storage at all.
The seats recline independently of each other but the handlebar is not adjustable. Online reviewers are, overall, surprised at the relatively high quality for the price, saying that it's a good value—and super useful.
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: If you really need something under $200, like I did once when I was on vacation and a stroller I was testing broke down, there's the Jeep Scout. But its canopies are tiny and there's no basket.
Features at a Glance
| Weight limit | 50 lbs. per seat |
| Stroller weight | 28.7 lbs. |
| Ages | 6 months+ |
| Unfolded dimensions | 29.5"x 36.2" x 41.7" |
| Folded dimensions | 29.5" x 30" x 13.4" |

Pros
Each seat holds a child up to 60 lbs.
Most lightweight on our list at 25 lbs.
Meets Disney's stroller requirements
Folds easily and compactly
Earns praise from parents of twins
Cons
Small wheels are not for rough terrain
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: When you're traveling with kids, on vacation, or an all-day outing to a theme park or zoo, this is clutch. Each seat can hold a child up to 60 pounds. It's lightweight and meets Disney size requirements.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Zoe's side-by-side has leatherette bumper bars where you can hang a toy (or tie on a Disney balloon). But you can also swap them out and have each kid get a cup holder and snack holder instead.
One reviewer who brought it to the theme parks said, "It was a breeze to set up and carry." The fold is super fast and takes only seconds. Each seat reclines separately. The sunshades have peekaboo windows.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: A parent of twins told us, "I'm deeply obsessed with our Zoe Twin and would not have survived transporting my twins around without it." Its size and ease makes it particularly convenient for city families and any family that is frequently in and out of a car.
The stroller's wheels are not great on rough terrain, and the basket is on the small side. But testers appreciate the parent cup holder and adjustable handlebar. "It is so light and easy to manage on your own," one tester said. "This fits in my trunk and still leaves me plenty of space for other items."
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: The brand makes a similar stroller with three seats. If you buy the $55 car seat adaptor, this can hold one car seat at a time from brands including Nuna, Joie, Maxi-Cosi, Cybex, Britax, and Evenflo. There are other useful accessories too, like a snack tray (get one for each kid).
Features at a Glance
| Weight limit | 60 lbs. per seat |
| Stroller weight | 25 lbs. |
| Ages | 3 months+ |
| Unfolded dimensions | 33" x 30" x 42" |
| Folded dimensions | 33 x 30" x 11" |
Pros
Easily converts from a single to a double or triple
Extra-large storage basket
More than 30 possible configurations
Seats can face either direction
Wheels can handle most terrain, including snow
Cons
Large to fold, lift, and store
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: Vista V3 works for one, two, or three kids. It's a premium choice, with wheels that handle most terrain, magnetic harness clips, a giant basket that can hold up to 30 pounds, and other features that make everyday life easier.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Push one kid in the seat it comes with. Then add accessories: A bassinet (or two, for twins, like my cousin did), a ride board (this is how former Lab expert Rachel Rothman, a mom of three, pushed her three kids), or the brand's car seat, which can be added to make this a travel system.
There are ultimately more than 30 configurations. Reversible seats mean either kid can be parent-facing or facing front. The Vista V3 has an extendable canopy and a no-rethread harness, which makes it simple to adjust the straps as your child grows.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: Add accessories, then later take them away. "We can easily use it as a single or a double depending on how my oldest is feeling on any given day," a tester said. "It's a little tough to maneuver because it becomes so long as a double but I still like it for its flexibility."
"We used a Vista for years as our kids were 16 months apart and were pretty happy with it overall. It saw a lot of use and abuse and withstood it well," a parent friend told me. Folding, lifting, and storing this requires extra effort compared with smaller, more lightweight options. But it can handle most any terrain, including snow, cobblestone streets, and more.
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: This is compatible with UPPAbaby infant car seats including the Aria V2. Other car seats, from brands like Chicco and Nuna, work with adaptors. Add the UPPAbaby RumbleSeat to turn the stroller into a tandem. Add the Vista PiggyBack Ride-Along Board to the back so an older child can stand.
Features at a Glance
| Weight limit | 50 lbs. for main seat, 35 lbs. for additional seat |
| Stroller weight | 27 lbs. with one seat |
| Ages | 3 months+, unless you buy the infant insert. |
| Unfolded dimensions | 36.5" x 25.7" x 39.5" |
| Folded dimensions | 16.3" x 25.7" x 33.8" |

Pros
Features leg covers, magnetic buckles, and a travel bag
Build-in bassinet mode make this safe to use from birth
Ideal for twins
Parents love the one-handed, compact fold
Car seat adaptor can hold 25+ different infant car seats
Cons
Basket is on the small side, only holds up to 20 lbs.
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: Some parents prefer the side-by-side setup, rather than having the kids stacked in tandem back-to-back. The kids each have a clear view of the road ahead, and for parents, it's easy to check on both kids with a single glance.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: For a double stroller under $600, this has all the bells and whistles, including wide seats that recline fully and separately, wide individual canopies, sun covers for each kid's legs, mesh openings for airflow, magnetic buckles, and more—even a travel bag.
It’s ideal for twins because it comes with a built-in bassinet feature. This makes it safe to use from birth, without any add-ons. But it's also great for siblings, because each seat can be reclined and set up very differently.
TEST RESULTS: A parent told us, “This is the best stroller I’ve ever used (and I’ve used many)!” Another said, “We loved the one-handed fold, the large storage compartment, and how smoothly it rode. Both of our kids were happy in it.”
Testers praised the size. "Small enough to fit in the trunk without taking up precious cargo space. The travel bag it came with was great and the instructions to remove the back wheels to put it in the bag were easy to follow," said one parent. "I’ve use umbrella strollers that still took up an awkward amount of trunk space. This was a huge improvement."
One caveat is that the basket is on the small side, and can only hold up to 20 pounds. "It would not fit a large shopping bag," a tester said.
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: The Bombi car seat adaptor works with 25+ different car seats, but the double stroller can only hold one car seat at a time. Each kid can get their own snack tray though!

| Weight limit | 55 lbs. per seat |
| Stroller weight | 28 lbs. |
| Ages | From birth |
| Unfolded dimensions | 35.75” x 29.75” x 41” |
| Folded dimensions | 29.75" x 13.25" x 23.25" |

Pros
Rolls along most terrain
Easy, fast fold
Sun-protective canopies with peekaboo windows
Seats recline nearly flat and independently of one another
Adjustable handle for parents of all heights
Cons
Basket is a bit hard to reach
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: If you want something comfy, durable, and long-lasting, I've had many friends happy with the City Mini. It has roomy seats plus rubber tires that smoothly glide on sidewalks and can handle park paths, too.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: To fold, you pull up on straps, one on each seat, and the whole thing folds in half. You store it standing upright. It takes up some floor space, but the fold takes only a second or two. Unfolding just requires lifting a latch and shaking it out.
Other features to note: The two large canopies have peekaboo windows so you can easily check on each child, and there are deep leg wells so each sibling can rest their calves. The seats each recline nearly flat and independently of each other, so one child can lay down while the other sits up.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: Rothman, who used the City Mini, said it works with a baby and a toddler—it can fit both easily. The handlebar "easily adjusted between me at 5'3" and my husband at 6'1," Rothman said.
Its downside is that the basket is completely under the seats and a bit difficult to access. (You have to bend down and reach over.) But you can stash things in the pockets behind each seat
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: Despite the brand name, this is not for jogging. If you like this brand and intend to run with your double stroller, check out the Baby Jogger Summit X3 with its bicycle-like wheels and safety strap.
Accessories meant for the single version of the City Mini do not necessarily work for the double, so buy extras such as a car seat adaptor carefully. The City Mini GT2 requires an adaptor even for the brand's own car seat and for others, including Graco, Cybex, and Maxi-Cosi. Only one seat can hold a car seat.
| Weight limit | 50 lbs. per seat |
| Stroller weight | 36.5 lbs. |
| Ages | Birth+ |
| Unfolded dimensions | 40.7" x 29.25" x 42.25" |
| Folded dimensions | 29.25" x 33.5" x 11.5" |
Pros
Ride board and seat for a big kid built in
Snack tray for the front seat
Parent console and two cupholders
Accepts Chicco infant car seat, no adaptor needed
Fast fold and stands in folded mode
Cons
Front seat can't recline if a sibling is in the back seat
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: Chicco's Bravo For2 has a ride board built in so that your chatty eldest (age 2 1/2 or older) can either stand and use the backrest support or sit on the cute jump seat and face you. It's an under-$400 option.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: Up front, there's the convenience of a snack tray for your youngest. In the handlebar, there's a parent console with a compartment and two cupholders for yourself.
The Bravo For2 can hold any of the popular Chicco KeyFit infant car seats without an adaptor, turning it into an easy travel system for the infant months.
This folds quickly using a mechanism at the middle of the stroller, and it stands by itself in folded mode. The cargo basket can be a little hard to get into if your older kid is in the back. The treaded, rubber tires do well on sidewalks.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: Online reviewers like this especially for their older child, who gets to feel "big" and is free to hop on and off, depending on whether they want to walk or ride. It also serves the up-front passenger well with the exception of the fact that the front seat can't recline if a sibling is in the back.
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: Chicco also has a modular stroller, the Chicco Corso Flex, which can go from a single to double. In one of its many configurations it, too, has a ride-on board on the back.
| Weight limit | 40 lbs. per seat |
| Stroller weight | 26.5 lbs. |
| Ages | 6 months+ for front seat, 2.5 years+ for back |
| Unfolded dimensions | 45" x 23.25" x 42" |
| Folded dimensions | 18" x 23.25" x 35" |

Pros
Built for jogging and rough terrain
Fits older (up to age 6) and heavier (up to 50 lbs.) kids
Giant canopies
Lots of storage
Online reviewers praise its durability
Cons
Big tires help it glide, but also make it a heavy choice
✔️ WHY I LIKE IT: This is built for jogging, running, and hiking rough terrain, with giant, nubby tires, a safety strap, and an adjustable handlebar.
✔️ WHAT TO KNOW: This is also an option for older or heavier kids, up to age 6 and up to 50 pounds, who still need an occasional ride. There are deep leg-rest wells, and the canopies are giant. There's also both a large cargo basket underneath plus storage pockets on the back of each seat.
For safety, the brand suggests you don't jog with a baby inside until they are 8 months old, so that they don't get jostled. If you're just taking this for a hike, however, you can use the stroller earlier in babyhood.
✔️ TESTING NOTES: My friends who are avid joggers have used this and loved it. Online reviewers, many of whom chose the Revolution as their everyday stroller, say they like its quality and durability, and that it can last for years.
Users say it glides smoothly and is easy to maneuver. The back wheels are 16 inches across, so this sits high off the ground. Those big wheels help it glide but also make this more challenging to fold and store.
✔️ MORE TO CONSIDER: BOB sells car seat adaptors for three brands: Chicco, Graco, and Britax. One seat then holds the car seat, and the other gets a snack tray, so it's best for when you're pushing a baby and toddler.

How I chose the best double strollers

I've reported on the stroller market for the last 26 years, meeting with brands and trying models both in the office and at home. I personally used many double strollers with my own kids, and more recently I've tried them with my relatives (those are my nieces, shown).

For the last four years, I've worked with the experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute's Media and Tech Lab, where we review new double strollers as part of the annual Parenting Awards. We unbox and build strollers, then rate them on factors such as maneuverability, ease of reclining the seats, and ease of buckling the harnesses.
We have families test the strollers, and they provide valuable feedback on how they work in real life. We have parent feedback for every stroller on this list with the exception of the value choice, which is a newer version not yet tested by a consumer family.
What to consider for when shopping for the best double stroller

✔️ Intended use: Are you hoping to take your kids on your jog? Do you need a double stroller that can roll down city sidewalks in the snow? Do you need to take your double stroller on an airplane? Fit newborn twins, each in their car seat?
How you plan to use your double stroller will dictate its important features. Big tires are for jogging and rough terrain like snow and trails. I like a giant cargo baskets for city living, where strollers substitute for cars. For travel, including to Disney World, I lean toward lightweight, side-by-side models. And for newborn twins there are tandem styles that accommodate two car seats.
✔️ Car seat compatibility: Always double-check the descriptions and specs before you buy your double stroller and car seat to be sure they work together. Some strollers will take one version of a brand's car seat but not another. Check and double-check!
Modular, tandem double strollers can usually hold two car seats. However, side-by-side double strollers can usually only hold one car seat at a time.
✔️ Convertibility: Unless you have twins, there will likely come a time when you only need to push your youngest around. Modular strollers let you remove or add seats at your convenience, so your double stroller can transform into a single. The Mockingbird and UPPAbaby both work that way.
✔️ Your children's sizes: Make sure that your children are in the right age and weight range to help ensure their safety. If your newborn is not yet old enough to sit on the main stroller seat, buy a bassinet attachment, car seat adaptor, or infant insert.
Can a side-by-side double stroller fit through a door?

Short answer is yes. Here is a photo of my coworker pushing a side-by-side twin stroller though one side of a double door to a restaurant to show that double strollers are, in fact, made to fit. Sometimes if a cupholder is hanging off the side, it might get in the way. But otherwise, you'll be good!
Do you really need a double stroller?

If you're taking around more than one kid, a double stroller is a great investment. Ever tried to push two separate strollers at one time? I have, and I don't recommend it. Even though you can strap a tiny sibling into an infant carrier while you push the oldest, that might get tiresome after a few months because it's hard to bend down and tend to your eldest while wearing your youngest.
All that said, I have met the rare parent who does without, especially if their kids are more than three years apart. "We just added a ride board to the back of our stroller for our 3-year-old to stand on while our baby rode in the stroller seat," one friend told me.
