Red light therapy masks may make you look like a futuristic robot, but the skin benefits are worth the silliness. While they’re super popular on TikTok, we wondered what they really do (AKA, are they actually worth hundreds of dollars?). So, we spoke to dermatologists and put a bunch of them to the test in the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty & Personal Care Lab.
Our top picks:
✔️ Best Overall: Therabody Theraface Mask Glo
A cordless, full-face mask with red, infrared, and blue lights makes for an easy-to-use mask that tightened and rejuvenated testers’ skin.
✔️ Best Value: Mirabella Phototherapy 7-Color LED Facial Mask with Near Infrared
Offers several light modes and wavelengths in a sturdy, comfortable design at a lower price.
✔️ Best FDA-cleared: Omnilux Clear
Uses multiple light therapies to reduce sun damage, stimulate new collagen, and boost hydration.
✔️ Best with cooling: Shark CryoGlow™ LED Face Mask
Provides cooling to the under-eye area, with different timed treatments to treat blemishes and provide anti-aging benefits.
✔️ Best for Sensitive Skin: Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare SpectraLite FaceWare Pro
Combines red and blue light in a quick, three-minute treatment that is gentle for sensitive skin.
Rather than rushing a skincare routine in the morning or skipping it altogether when you’re feeling tired at night, LED masks are easy to use and allow you to multitask while treating your skin. “LED masks are the latest technology in at-home therapies for acne and rejuvenation,” says Shauna Diggs, M.D., a dermatologist working with Lumenis Laser Aesthetics. “They use visible light to improve the skin by reducing bacterial count, decreasing inflammation, and stimulating collagen production.” We learned from dermatologists about the benefits of quality LED masks, tested some in the Lab ourselves, and did research to show you the best picks for every skin type.
