Squeezing into uncomfortable shapewear is at the top of my list of least favorite things to do, and as an analyst in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab who tests all kinds of intimate apparel, I’ve tried my fair share of uncomfy styles (and have accidentally ripped a ton of them along the way).
Thankfully, that hasn’t been the case with Shapermint, which is one of our top-tested shapewear brands that performs well both in the Lab. Plus, Shapermint is one of my personal favorites—especially the brand’s best-selling cami and panty, both of which we’ve tested.
Here’s why I recommend Shapermint’s shapewear.

It’s shaping but not restrictive
Shapewear is supposed to shape your body, smoothing over bulges with the help of stretch fibers and a compressive design—but it can easily feel too tight and restrictive while it’s doing its job. Shapermint’s Essential collection is a great intro into the world of shapewear because it’s comfortable, but still functional.
Of course, it’s snug compared to a regular tank top or pair of shorts, but the pieces I’ve tested don’t cut into my legs, underarms, or waist—and they actually move with my body.
It’s not the most securing or smoothing shapewear I’ve tried, but it’s great for everyday use and light shaping.
In the Lab, when we tested the stretch-recovering abilities of Shapermint’s shapewear (the cami and panties, specifically), and we were impressed that both maintained their shapes.
Testers who have tried the brand’s pieces love them, too. One who tried the shaping cami commented that it “created a very flattering silhouette,” adding, “Even though it was snug, it was pretty comfortable.”
Another tester who tried the shaping panties shared, “It was incredibly simple, comfortable, and honestly I forgot I was wearing it, which has never been the case before.”
It stays in place
I shouldn’t have to worry about my shapewear panties rolling down, causing lumps and bumps that weren’t there in the first place—and thankfully Shapermint’s pieces are specially designed with technology to help them stay in place.
The High-Waisted Shaper Panty, for example, has a silicone strip inside the waistband for better grip and anti-slip protection, and there are small pieces of built-in boning for added security.
The neckline of the spaghetti-strap cami we tested (and the one I personally own) doesn’t budge, either. It also offers plenty of coverage without slipping down. The hemline stays in place surprisingly well, too.
An insider tip for putting on a shaping cami: Always step into it, especially if you’re putting it on alone. It’s so much easier to pull your cami up over your legs than down over your head. I’ve learned my lesson the hard way.
It’s not sweaty
The shapewear is formfitting and made with synthetic fibers, but its breathable because of it’s unique knit design.
I don’t feel bogged down when I have it on, and I don’t have to worry about sweating through my dress or top because it acts as another layer of protection in defense against sweat stains.
Our testers rated a variety of Shapermint products highly for comfort and said they remained at a comfortable temperature when wearing them.
Final thoughts
If you’re interested in the world of shapewear but don’t know where to begin, I would highly recommend checking out Shapermint.
