8 Best Shower Speakers, Tested by Experts

Our experts hold up Bose as one of the most reliable names in speakers. “The brand consistently stands out in our tests for its high-quality, clear audio,” says Nikolas Greenwald, Lab Assistant at the Good Housekeeping Institute (one who moonlights as a DJ, so you better believe he knows his audio!). The SoundLink Flex stays true to Bose's beautiful sound in a lightweight, waterproof design. It can even handle water submersion up to three feet, should you decide to move it from the shower to the swimming pool. Smartphone connection was seamless in our tests and the on-speaker controls are easy to navigate. Though we wish the Bluetooth range was a little greater than 30 feet, it's hard to find better quality for a better price.

If you like to really rock out in the shower or you plan to use the same speaker to get the dance floor going at your next outdoor party, reach for the SRS-XG300. In our latest tests, our experts were blown away by how loud it got without any drop-off in sound quality. "Mega bass mode sounds fantastic," says Greenwald, adding that the speaker “is naturally attuned to mainstream pop sounds, with a distinctive mid-range and emphasized bass.” We also like that this speaker has a Bluetooth range of nearly 100 feet so you can move around with your phone and it comes with an impressive 25 hours of battery life. The retractable handle makes this speaker super easy to carry — just keep in mind that it is one of the heaviest speakers on this list, coming in at nearly seven pounds.

The Sport 2.0 is unique in that its built-in microphone features Siri and Google, so if you’re on Apple or Android OS, you’ll be able to stream music or podcasts by voice control — nice when your hands are covered in shampoo suds. The rugged speaker delivers crisp, premium sound, thanks to a pair of drivers (the components that actually generate the sound) that face in all directions. However, the 10-hour run time is a bit below average, and its Bluetooth range tops out at 33 feet.

A washable rubberized skin makes the mid-priced LifeJacket 3 our choice as the most rugged shower speaker. “This is a good option for outdoor showers, where the speaker is likely to get a little more wear and tear,” says Lipski. Though we didn’t test the speaker in our Labs, our experts say it should deliver suitable sound in any shower enclosure. They also call out its 50-foot Bluetooth range, helpful if you will be using it in an outdoor shower, or out by the pool, where its water-friendly construction will even allow it to float! Just note that at nine inches long, it's quite a bit larger than most shower speakers.

The Flip 6 is a more affordable version of the JBL Charge 5, and our experts say it should deliver similar functionality in the shower. They also like the expanded array of 11 colors, including blue, red, teal and pink. Its IPX7 rating means it’s fully waterproof, but might not hold up as well to dust, so we don’t recommend taking it on too many camping trips. The claimed 12-hour runtime is a bit shorter than some, but plenty long if you do plan on limiting the speaker to use in the shower.

Here’s another shower speaker that delivers excellent bang for the buck. It’s one of the best of all reviewed units when it comes to runtime, thanks to its exceptional 24-hour battery life. It’s also extremely compact and lightweight. There might be some tradeoff in sound quality compared to the premium speakers on our picks list. But if you’re just looking to spice up shower time with some good tunes, this Anker is a budget option that won’t disappoint.
