Hands are perhaps your most useful beauty tools, but they can also work against you. Many people experience dexterity issues, tremors, hand weakness, pain, or limb difference (like me, a left arm amputee). These challenges can make daily tasks frustrating and daunting. Suddenly, a jar of cream looks like the Great War. A blush compact is your worst enemy when you know you’ll struggle to open it. And a bottle of foundation is just a spill and a ruined rug waiting to happen. These hurdles can make you forgo the routine that makes you feel happy, pampered, and beautiful.

Our top picks:

But you don’t need to drop (literally or figuratively) your beauty routine because of hand-related accessibility challenges. Some beauty product formats are naturally more accessible, making things significantly easier on your hands, and stick-form products are one of the best places to start.

For one, solid products are impossible to spill. It’s also easier to apply a product that goes straight from packaging to skin—no extra tools required. My favorite part? Many stick formulas are very versatile, often replacing more than one step in your routine to simplify it.

Over time, I’ve found an accessible stick-form product for nearly every step in my beauty routine, and rounded them all up below.

Masks can be particularly challenging because you’re either dealing with a sheet that you need to unfold and extricate from a tricky sachet, or a jarred mask, which often means messy application and a potentially tricky lid, as wide containers are harder to grasp. This stick-form mask tackles those hurdles with a dispensing mechanism as easy as your favorite deodorant and a mess-free application that allows you to apply it either to your entire face or just the areas you’d like to target. Whereas some clay masks can be quite drying, I love that this formula includes soothing Centella Asiatica, aka cica, and aloe extracts that supports softness and hydration.

I loved everything about this blush the second I touched the packaging. The cap is so simple to pop off that you certainly don’t need two hands. You can even push it off by pressing down and up on the side of it (like pressing a spoon to a tin of biscuits). The way the blush itself is contoured by a large plastic lip is genius because even if you fumble with the cap and don’t lift it enough when removing it, you don’t risk damaging the surface of the product (we’ve all decapitated an innocent lipstick at some point). The formula is hydrating and blends easily using just your hand, saving you the need to reach for a brush or sponge.

Skincare doesn’t have to involve 10 steps and 10 inaccessible containers to be effective. This is a great option for on-the-go application when you need a hydration boost but don’t have a flat surface in front of you to put your products down or two hands to open a cream. I love gliding a quick swipe of this on the high points of my face for a natural highlighter effect. You can also use this serum stick under makeup as a primer to minimize creasing and improve blendability, reducing the number of products you need to work into your everyday routine.

If you struggle with your hands, you may find yourself dreading the oh-so-important SPF that you should be wearing daily. Stick formulas make that easier, but not all are created equal. Many can feel greasy and leave you shiny. But this glowy SPF stick with light reflecting pigments can double as a delicate highlighter, taking it from oily to glowy.

If you struggle with a twisting mechanism due to hand weakness or dexterity issues, The Everywhere Stick may be easier because you just push the bottom to dispense it. The versatility is an accessibility bonus so you can target several things in one go—use it on chapped lips, face, knuckles, elbows, heels, dry split ends, or dab a little on your cheekbones for some glow.

Tremors or dexterity issues can make fine motor tasks feel impossible, so finding products that support imprecise application is important if you have limited hand control, and that’s exactly what this is. Since Glossier’s Futuredew solid is less opaque than a highlighter, it’s okay if you lack precision when applying. The unique oil-to-serum formula makes this ideal for applying under or over makeup, so there’s no right or wrong. This stick makes it look like I did a 10-step glass skin routine with the simplicity of a one-step twist-and-apply.

Pro tip: I like to swipe it on before my moisturizer fully absorbs because it helps me more evenly blend it for a delicate all-over glow.

A good stick SPF can turn application into a lightweight, confidence-boosting habit instead of an ordeal. Round Lab’s Birch Sun Stick is one of my favorites because it swipes on easily, unlike some stickier formulas, and leaves no white cast so you don’t even need to rub it in. With no pump or extra tools required, the twist format cuts out extra steps, which helps make daily SPF feel less cumbersome. The birch juice and hyaluronic acid-infused formula is also super hydrating, so I sometimes skip the moisturizer altogether to simplify my routine.

Eye makeup can feel intimidating if you experience limited hand control because the eye area is delicate and you want to be careful you’re not getting any product in your eyes. But twenty/twenty Beauty was founded by an ophthalmologist who helped develop the brand’s products so they’d be free of common eye irritants. The stick application makes swiping these on super easy, and if your precision isn’t on point, it’s okay since the pigments are less opaque and more forgiving.

This stick is an accessibility standout because it brings the aromatic benefits of essential oils without the spillage or a tiny bottle with a tight cap. It also feels luscious and moisturizing, like an extra-thick body butter, but has the convenience of a twist mechanism to spare you the fight of a slippery lid on a wide jar. The vanilla-scented magnesium-infused formula is soothing and smells wonderful, so this doubles as a sweet perfume.

A good stick-form blush is one of the most versatile products to have if you’re looking to make your beauty routine more accessible and Charlotte Tilbury’s Unreal Blush sticks are a standout because of the silky, blendable formula. The easy-to-glide feel turns this blush into a multitasking essential you can use on lips or even eyes, meaning you won’t have to handle as many products to add vibrance to your whole face.

This wouldn’t be a well-rounded list without a primer, and Elf’s Primer Stick is a fantastic choice when it comes to being easy on your hands and, at just $8, easy on your wallet. The twist mechanism is at the top, which I always find more accessible than a little wheel at the bottom (like with a deodorant), and you can easily swipe this on to prep your skin for any makeup you plan to add. Or, if you’re just after a cooling effect and hydrated complexion, you can wear it alone.

Making my hair look somewhat tame with one hand has been one of my biggest beauty struggles. A sticky styling cream isn’t an accessible option for me—you get it all over your hands and then you can’t touch anything else, plus you often need to rub it between both palms for even distribution. But AngelStick requires minimal involvement. Just slide it straight onto rebellious hair. You don’t even need a brush if you’re trying to do a few quick touch-ups. For a neater updo, I brush my hair back and apply AngelStick starting at the hairline like you would for a slick-back, securing my strands with a pony or clip. You can use this at any point in styling: before to help you smooth your hair as you go or after, if you need to tackle a few stubborn strands.

How we chose the best accessible stick beauty products

linebreak

All the products on this list were personally tested by an amputee lifestyle writer, who prioritizes accessibility when it comes to beauty. Each was selected based on ease of dispensing, grip comfort, and overall formula performance. This selection includes longtime staples and newer favorites that have simplified her one-handed beauty routine.

What to look for in an accessible stick beauty product

linebreak

Keep these factors in mind when shopping for accessible stick beauty products:

✔️ Grip: Look for products that are comfortable to hold. Not all stick products are created equal. If it’s too wide or slick to comfortably grip and dispense, it’s not going to be more accessible. Matte packaging is always a bonus because it makes for a better hold. Shorter products can also provide increased control if you struggle with dexterity or tremors.

✔️ Versatility: There’s no point in accessible packaging if the formula isn’t making your life easier as well. Gravitate towards products that can be used in more than one way, such as a blush that doubles as a lipstick or a serum stick that works as a primer, reducing the number of products you’ll need to interact with throughout your routine.

✔️ Easy dispensing: Choose stick products that are easy to dispense. If it has a twisting mechanism, it should turn smoothly rather than sticking. A formula with good glide will also make application easier and minimize the need for additional tools to blend.
