One of the best upgrades people can buy these days is a wireless charger. Not only can you charge your phone, but most wireless chargers allow you to charge headphones and smartwatches as well. You can condense having to carry and use three different cords and plugs with just one device. Even cars are starting to come with built-in wireless charging to reduce the amount of cables you need to bring. While they may not charge as quickly as a typical wired connection, the technology is slowly advancing and will soon be fast enough to match the fastest chargers.

Our top picks:

✔️ Best overall: Belkin UltraCharge Wireless 3 in 1 Foldable Charging Station

A fast charging station that fits in your pocket and can charge multiple products at once.

✔️ Best value: Twelve South HiRise 3

The cheapest option on the list but can still hang with the rest of the top tested.

✔️ Best features: Anker Prime 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station

The most features out of any 3-in-1 charging station we’ve ever tested.

In the Good Housekeeping Institute Tech and Engineering Lab, our tech experts have been testing electronics and chargers for years. From giving advice on keeping chargers plugged in to what the best battery backup is, we’ve done the testing and the research. In order to determine what wireless chargers stand on top, we look at charging speed, features, what each one comes with, and other metrics. See below for the best wireless chargers we’ve tested.

Pros

  • Very small desk footprint
  • Comes in multiple colors
  • Special ChillBoost Technology to keep phone cool while it charges

Cons

  • Only compatible with iPhones and Google Pixels

This small, portable charger was one of the best wireless chargers that we tested. We tested the round version of this, which is sold directly on the Belkin site, but this is the exact same product aside from a slight visual difference. As a 3-in-1, it’s capable of charging smartwatches and earbuds with wireless charging capabilities on top of charging your phone. It’s foldable, meaning it’s not like the other wireless charging stations that have individual parts that stick out and can’t move. It can be folded down to be the most compact charger we tested. Our analysts thought it was super portable if that’s how you wanted to use it, and perfect for traveling. It comes with everything you need to get started, so no need to worry about finding a USB-C cord or an adapter that works with it. Even the power adapter is compact.

During our charging speed tests, it took 50 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%. Belkin also uses their patented ChillBoost technology, which helps keep the charger and battery from heating up during charge. It’s not a fan like other chargers in this list, but different technology completely. While testing, our team felt a physical difference in the phone, and noted how it didn’t get as hot as a typical wireless charger. This charger also comes in three different colors if you like to customize your charger! Unfortunately, it’s only compatible with iPhones and Google Pixels, so if you are a Samsung user, you’re out of luck.

HiRise 3

Pros

  • Very cheap
  • Multiple viewing angles

Cons

  • Not compatible with all headphones

The HiRise 3 has an adjustable magnetic stand that allows you to tilt your phone to the perfect viewing angle while keeping it securely in place. Like the others, it’s designed to simultaneously charge an Apple Watch, headphones, and phone, which makes it extremely useful for families and shared desk spaces.

This charger does require a MagSafe-compatible case for the magnetic stand to work, and it's only designed to charge magnetic earbud case headphones. The HiRise is a high-quality solution for simplifying your setup, combining convenience and performance in a sleek package that look great on your home office desk or nightstand.

Pros

  • Has fan to keep your phone cool as it charges
  • Extremely fast wireless charging
  • Display screen with time and temperature info

Cons

  • Bulky

This was the most high-tech charging station we tested. Firstly, it’s a 3-in-1 charging station, meaning it can charge a Qi2 phone, an Apple watch, and a pair of earbuds that are built with wireless charging. This is one of the newer evolutions of Qi2 wireless charging, as it can get up to 25W, which is 10W higher than what most chargers were doing before. It’s the only one station we’ve ever tested with a display that shows the time, the amount of wattage going to each thing you are charging, as well as having Bluetooth capabilities. That’s right—you can connect this charger through Bluetooth to your phone, where it can track the wattage you are being provided to all your devices.

It has a fan built within the phone charger itself to help keep the phone cool, which helps to keep your battery from overheating while it charges at higher speeds. It even has multiple charging modes, from a sleep mode that reduces the noise of the fan, to an ice mode that cools it even more aggressively. Since batteries heat up during any type of charging, having the capability to keep it cooler while you charge helps to increase the overall battery life. In our tests at the Institute, this had the quickest charging capabilities by far. It charged from 20 to 80% in only 47 minutes. Despite it charging so quickly, with all these extra features, our analysts did feel like it was a little bulky and recommend leaving it at your desk or wherever you decide to keep it.

BoostCharge PRO 3-in-1

Pros

  • Can charge wireless earbuds
  • Sleek profile

Cons

  • Fixed phone angle

The stylish BoostCharge is a standout addition to any workspace. It can charge your phone, earbuds, and watch all at once. It's the only charger we've tested that includes a wall plug—not just a cable—making set-up straightforward and convenient.

A highlight for some reviewers that was enough to make the BoostCharge their primary charger for work is its ability to charge other wireless earbuds, not just AirPods. For gamers and audiophiles this is a must-have feature.

The upright design makes it easy to use your phone while it charges, but the fixed charging angle prevents any adjustability. Reviewers also noticed that the headphone charger tended to get really warm while charging. These minor drawbacks shouldn't keep you from investing in this sharp-looking charging station.

3-in-1 Qi2 Foldable Wireless Charging Station

Pros

  • Comes with international attachments for power adapters
  • Can fold to be very flat
  • Can work with iPhones, Samsung, and Google phones

Cons

  • No cooling capabilities

As the name suggests, this Satechi wireless charger folds into itself to help store and transport it with you. It comes with both a power adapter and a USB-C cord, so you can immediately start charging your smart devices. You can charge three different devices at once, a smartphone, smartwatch, and earbuds. While it was only tested with an iPhone within our Labs, the brand says it can charge Pixels and Samsung phones as well. This is very rare, as most wireless chargers can typically only charge one type of phone. It also comes with international plug attachments, so you can take this to the EU or UK and use it without having to buy an international adapter. Even if you aren’t traveling, it has options for if you live abroad as well.

During our tests, it did take just a little bit over one hour to get from 20% to 80%, which is still very good. Our analysts loved the way it looked and how flat and compact it was when it folded. It also doesn’t take up much space while fully upright, so it’s great for a nightstand or something similar. Unfortunately, compared to other options on this list, it doesn’t have cooling tech, and with a faster charge, you’d want something like that to protect your battery as best as possible.

Pros

  • Built in cooling fan
  • Adjustable phone base

Cons

  • Not portable

Another great product from Belkin, the UltraCharge Pro charges your phone quickly and keeps it cool while doing it. Just like most other picks on this list, you can charge a Qi2/Magsafe phone, a smartwatch, and wireless charging earbuds all at the same time. This is more of a stand, so would work best on a desk or even bedside. The part that holds the phone can lay flat or be tilted forward, depending how you want the charger to look. You can even orient your phone in vertical or landscape mode if you want to use it while it charges.

It comes with a built-in fan to help keep the phone cool as it charges. You can easily turn it off if you want with the flick of a switch. We never felt it get hot at all while it charged, and it took 59 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%. It even comes with the power adapter and cord so you don’t have to go shopping for one after you purchase this. It’s not the most portable charger, as it’s a stand that doesn’t have any folding parts. But even so, it is still pretty small and would fit comfortably on a busy desk without taking up too much room.

Pros

  • Very portable
  • Built in fan
  • Comes with adapter and cord

Cons

  • Doesn't work with Samsung watches

This small portable charger by Anker is both convenient and quick to charge. As its name suggests, this Anker charger folds up to fit easily into your palm or in your pocket. Not only is it easy to transport, it can charge three different smart devices at once (a phone, an Apple watch or compatible smartwatch, and wireless charging compatible earbuds). The watch charger can be pressed flush against the phone charger so it is not in the way if you do not need it. Unfortunately, this only works with Apple smartwatches, and not Samsung. If you only need to charge your phone, you can keep the charger folded to help it stay compact and out of the way. It has a fan to help keep the phone cool as it charges. There’s a button on the side that allows you to turn it on and off with a simple tap.

During testing, our analysts thought that the fan worked great, and the phone didn’t heat up at all while it charged. It also only took 54 minutes to charge an iPhone from 20% to 80%. This charger is sold in both black and white.

How we test the best wireless chargers

double line break

For this most recent round of testing, we tested 10 new and different wireless chargers. In order to figure out which wireless chargers came out on top, we first inspected what came with the charger. A lot of brands these days are supplying electric products without cords or the power adapter, so we first take a look at the accessories provided. For those that came with their own power adapters, we used what it comes with. For those that just came with the cord, we use the same power adapter to test all of those chargers. We also see how many extra features these chargers have, such as if it can only charge your phone or if it can charge your smartwatch and/or earbuds too. There are even wireless chargers that now have built-in cooling capabilities such as fans. These keep your phone cooler as it charges, which helps to increase the life span of your battery, and is a new feature we are keeping an eye out for.

When we test charging speed, we use the same phone across all the wireless chargers. We get the phone down to 20% and then time how long it takes to get to 80%. The reason we don’t measure to 100% is that a phone will actually prevent itself from charging at regular speed as it gets more full. This prevents the phone battery from overheating. By going to 80%, this gives us the best metric of overall charge speed before the phone battery automatically adjusts itself. We also measure how quick it charges in just 30 minutes just to get a quick snapshot of charging speed.

What to look for when shopping for a wireless charger

double line break

✔️ Charging rate: The typical wireless charging rate for phones for a plug-in wireless charger is 15W, but companies are coming out with more 25W wireless charging options as wireless charging tech continues to evolve. While wired may sometimes be able to provide more powerful (faster) charging, your phone may not be capable of it. The most important thing to understand when it comes to charging rate is that your phone will limit the charging speed if it’s too much for the battery, no matter what you are trying to supply. This helps to prolong the life of the battery. Most iPhones that have Qi2/Magsafe capabilities can handle up to 25W of wireless charging.

✔️ Size: Wireless chargers come in a range of sizes, from full-featured standing models to portable units that snap to the back of your phone. Think about how and where you’ll use and carry your charger—smaller models fit neatly into a pocket, while larger ones are better suited for your home or desktop.

✔️ What’s included: Don't expect all wireless chargers to include cables or power adapters. We discovered a few without, so make sure you read the product description before buying. If they've got it, that's one less thing to buy. Some come with international plugs as well, that you slot into the power adapter, so you can use it in the EU or UK. For the faster chargers, also check to see if there are fans or any cooling tech, as that will help to prolong your overall battery life.

✔️ Compatibility: Every wireless charger will be able to charge specific devices, and it will tell you which when you purchase it. For some chargers, they will be optimized for certain devices, such as certain iPhones, smartwatches, or Airpods. It’s also important to check your phone/smart product is compatible with the device. Not every phone is MagSafe or Qi2 compatible, and it’s important to verify that or you won’t be able to charge your device.

✔️ Safety: It’s always important that when you are purchasing a wireless charger, that they are ETL or UL listed. This means they have gone through the proper channels so that it passes all safety standards that are necessary for using an electronic product. It’s always important to verify this for any product that involves a battery or charging a battery.
