If hours of free entertainment count as rent, the birds in my backyard are paid up for life. They’re doing plenty for the neighborhood, too, from controlling pests to pollinating plants.
Frankly, they've earned an upgrade from their starter home. This colorful six-room bird mansion gives them exactly that, and I wouldn’t mind having its cheerful facade outside my window, either.
The structure looks like a row of tiny houses pieced together, each with its own entrance, shape, and personality. Distressed shades of pink, blue, orange, red and tan give the birdhouse a storybook feel. Meanwhile, mismatched roofs, tiny fences, and decorative birds perched along the roofline make it look like a bustling little neighborhood.
Inside are six separate nesting compartments, each with a 1.4-inch entrance hole. Built-in ventilation helps keep air circulating on warmer days, while additional escape openings give birds another route out if a predator gets inside.
The house is made of metal, which the brand says can withstand rain, wind, and sun and makes it more difficult for larger animals to chew through the exterior.
It also includes smart details for whoever manages this tiny apartment complex. Three doors on the back open for cleaning, giving you direct access to the interior when you need to clear out old nesting material.
The entire birdhouse weighs 2.7 pounds and arrives fully assembled, so there’s no miniature construction project involved. Just use the attached chain and S-shaped hook to hang it from a sturdy tree branch, shepherd’s hook, or patio cover. It also has a built-in hook on the back if you’d prefer to hang it on a wall or fence.
Between the sturdy construction and charming design, it's the kind of birdhouse I'd happily leave on display year-round.
