- Wisconsin orders the most frozen pizza in the U.S., according to Instacart data.
- Pepperoni is the most popular topping nationwide, though some states prefer plain cheese pizza.
- Oregon leads the country in Hawaiian pizza orders.
There are few things better than forgoing making a complicated meal at the end of the day and just ordering an ooey, gooey pizza instead. It's easy, it's comforting, and it's pretty darn delicious. And according to new data from Instacart, where you live may play a big role in what kind of pizza ends up in your cart.
To celebrate National Pi Day on March 14 (you know, 3.14), Instacart analyzed ordering trends to see how Americans buy pizza, including which states order the most frozen pies, which toppings reign supreme, and other fun cheesy statistics.
The state that orders the most frozen pizza
"Measured by ounces of frozen pizza purchased per customer in 2025, Wisconsin takes the crown as our most frozen pizza-loving state, ordering 113% more per customer than the national average," the company shared in its report.
The rest of the top five is dominated by the Midwest: North Dakota ranks second, ordering 82% more per customer than the average, followed by Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri. As Instacart notes in its report, “If you’ve ever suspected the Midwest has pizza night down to a science… consider this your confirmation."
The most popular pizza toppings
That, however, isn't the only fun fact Instacart is sharing about our pizza preferences. Pepperoni remains the most popular topping across most of the country. The only exceptions are New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey, where cheese pizza takes the top spot.
Of course, no data on pizza would be complete without talking about the most controversial topping of all: pineapple. Though, according to Instacart's data, Hawaiians don't even make it into the top five states of ordering a Hawaiian pizza. Instead, that honor goes to Oregon, which orders the pie 384% more often than the national average—followed by Washington, Utah, Idaho, and North Dakota.
And for many Americans, pizza night isn’t complete without a dipping sauce. Instacart found that ranch dressing appears in orders 156% more often than average when frozen pizza is in the cart, suggesting plenty of people pair their slices with a side of ranch.
Craving a pizza now as much as I am? Instacart is offering a limited-time Pi Day promotion. On March 14 only, customers can get a free Red Baron pizza with a qualifying order.
