Pre-made meals are usually a lifesaver as a mid-week dinner option when you simply do not have it in you to make something from scratch. But if you happened to pick up a pre-made meal from Costco this week, then you may want to check your fridge for an important recall. Here is what you need to know.

What, exactly, is being recalled?

Costco announced in a letter sent to members that it is recalling its Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze made between March 2, 2026, and March 13, 2026. The meatloaf meal came with the item number 30783 and was labeled with sell-by dates between March 5, 2026, and March 16, 2026.

Why is the meatloaf meal from Costco being recalled?

The meal, which Costco noted on its website came with "fresh ground beef; Kirkland Signature butter; Signature glaze, and Yukon Gold mashed potatoes," is being recalled after an ingredient supplier, Griffith Foods Inc., announced that it was recalling an ingredient used in the meatloaf. According to Costco, the ingredient was being recalled as it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) further explains that Salmonella is “a leading cause of foodborne illness, hospitalizations, and deaths in the United States and worldwide." Those most at risk include children, especially those younger than 5 years old, adults over 50, older adults with underlying medical problems, and people who have a weakened immune system.

Some people with Salmonella infection will have no symptoms. However, others will deal with diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps within 8 to 72 hours. Most healthy individuals recover within a few days to a week without a specific medical intervention.

Where was it distributed?

The meatloaf meal was sold in 26 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The states include Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

What should I do if I recently purchased it?

As Costco noted, you should not consume "any product that is part of this recall." Instead, you can return it to your local Costco for a full refund. You can also visit Costco’s customer service website with any questions.
