The Easter holiday is right around the corner, which means you may be thinking about stocking up on chocolate for your celebration. And while you already know to be careful about which lot of Jordan Almonds you buy this season, you may also want to double check which Lidl chocolates you get, too. The company is recalling a batch of its Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs. Here's what you need to know.
What, exactly, is being recalled?
On March 12, Lidl US and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall for all lots of the brand's Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs, German-Style Nougat in 3.52 oz boxes. The recalled chocolates all came with the UPC 20304492 printed on the label.
Why are the Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs being recalled?
According to the recall announcement, the chocolate is being recalled "due to an undeclared hazelnut allergen." The company initiated the recall after discovering the product, which contains tree nuts, was distributed in packaging that did not clearly state the presence of hazelnuts.
The notice adds that "people who have allergies to hazelnuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products."
The good news: No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall to date.
Where and when were the chocolates sold?
The products were sold between January 28, 2026, and March 11, 2026. The chocolate product was distributed to all Lidl US store locations in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.
What should I do if I purchased this chocolate?
If bought the Favorina Chocolate Ladybugs, the FDA and Lidl urge you not to consume them. Instead, you can return the product to your nearest Lidl store for a full refund (a receipt is not required).
