Costco is packed with fan-favorite grocery staples—its rotisserie chicken, Greek Pasta Salad, and 4-pound key lime pie are just a few. And now, another beloved warehouse item has returned: Kirkland Signature Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips.
In 2024, Costco discontinued its name-brand baking ingredient in both its dairy and non-dairy iterations. At the time, an assistant general manager took to Reddit to explain to devoted shoppers why the company made the decision, citing the nearly 200% rise in cocoa costs.
“The cost our suppliers are presenting us would no longer make our Kirkland Signature Chocolate Chips a value against national brands like Nestle Toll House,” the Costco employee said in his post. However, he acknowledged that the company had a “long term plan” to bring the chocolate chips back.
That day has finally come, and, naturally, longtime fans are elated. Currently, only the Kirkland Signature Chocolate Chips containing dairy are available, and they are priced at $13.61 for a 4.5-pound bag. While Costco hasn’t formally announced which locations have restocked them, shoppers have reported chocolate chip sightings in locations like Bend, Oregon, Centerville, Ohio, Milford, Connecticut, and more.
Fans rejoice online
“I don’t think you understand how devastated I was when @costco took away their semi-sweet chocolate chips.” wrote baking influencer @crustycravingsbyhannah on Instagram.
On Reddit, users are sharing the excitement as well.
“Yes! I finally reached the end of my last bag earlier this year, so this is great news!” one Reddit user commented.
“I AM SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!! This made my night!” added another user.
