For nearly five years now, I’ve tested mattresses in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles, Apparel & Paper Lab evaluating more than 250 beds from the most popular brands. Add in my colleagues’ decades of experience reviewing mattresses, and we know not only what makes a great bed, but also what they typically cost—so we can spot a genuinely good deal. Typically, we say Memorial Day is the best time to upgrade your bedding, but we’ve been genuinely impressed with this year’s Labor Day sales.
Can’t miss sales:
- Saatva: Classic Mattress (20% off)
$2,139$1,711 - Avocado: Green Mattress (20% off)
$2,399$1,919 - Bear: Elite Hybrid Mattress (40% off)
$2,284$1,370 - Purple: The PurpleFlex Mattress (20% off)
$1,299,$1,039
In fact, there are deals up to 40% off, but a steep markdown alone doesn’t make a mattress worth buying. You’ll sleep on it for years, so the best discount is ultimately on a bed that suits your sleep style, needs, and budget. That’s why I’m only highlighting mattresses we’d recommend even at full price. Ahead, the deals we actually endorse, plus exclusive discount codes you won’t find anywhere else.

Saatva Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: This Labor Day, Good Housekeeping readers can take 20% off their Saatva orders (with a minimum $1,000 spend) by shopping through our exclusive link.
WHY WE LOVE IT: This is an exclusive deal for our readers that’s better than Saatva’s public sale. Best of all, every mattress order comes with complimentary white-glove delivery and mattress removal, plus a generous 365-night trial (returns are subject to a $99 pickup fee).
IN OUR TESTS: Our Lab has tested hundreds of mattresses, but the Saatva Classic (featured) consistently comes out on top in our evaluations. Beyond its quality materials and construction, it has top-notch edge support and exceptional breathability. And if you're looking for a supportive bed, this is one of the best you'll find. Our testers found that it runs a bit firm, but you've got three firmness levels to choose from.

Avocado Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Right now, customers can take up to 20% off Avocado’s mattresses, including 20% off our favorite organic mattress, the Avocado Green Mattress.
WHY WE LOVE IT: This is the biggest sale we’ve seen on the Green Mattress this year. It’s typically 15% off on shopping holidays, which makes the 20% discount extra exciting.
IN OUR TESTS: This mattress uses latex, which is more resilient than foam and prized for its ability to evenly distribute your body weight. Because of that, it won't sink nearly as much under your weight and has a dense, springy feel. One tester shared, “It is very firm like a good solid hug, but at the same time conforms to you and embraces you.”
It's also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), which means Avocado adheres to strict manufacturing standards.

Bear Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Now through September 7, Bear is offering 40% off mattresses plus free sleep accessories, including two pillows and a mattress protector with the code GH40.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Bear typically offers a 35% discount on holiday weekends, so this exclusive 40% sale is a major steal.
IN OUR TESTS: Bear’s Elite Hybrid Mattress has the best hybrid mattress we've tested since it launched four years ago. It's designed to promote spinal alignment, providing targeted comfort and support in key areas, and it’s delivered. Every tester who’s tried it has raved about how it improved their sleep quality and praised the comfortable feel.

Purple Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Through September 15, take up to $1,999 off a mattress and base, including 20% off our favorite cooling mattress, the Purple Mattress.
WHY WE LOVE IT: The last time the Purple Mattress was this discounted was July of last year, and its prices (like many other brands) have increased since. Right now is a great time to invest in the brand.
IN OUR TESTS: Hot sleepers and back-pain sufferers praised its breathable nature and standout support. One tester described it as "the perfect balance of soft and firm," while a survey panelist shared, "Every other mattress [that] I have used has never made me feel cool while I sleep, [but] this one does."

THE DEAL: We also scored a true exclusive discount for GH readers. With code GH2026, our readers can get 20% off all Purple mattresses, pillows, bedding, and frames.
WHY WE LOVE IT: We recommend using our exclusive code on the PurpleFlex, which isn’t on sale for Labor Day weekend. This makes it the cheapest Purple mattress you can get. It’s a great bed for back and stomach sleepers who need (or anyone who prefers) a firmer surface.
IN OUR TESTS: The PurpleFlex utilizes the same GelFlex Grid as the classic Purple Mattress, but the PurpleFlex has fewer foam layers to create a firmer feel.
Nolah Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Good Housekeeping readers can take an extra $100 off mattress purchases with code GH100, which you can stack with the brand’s 35% discount through September 7.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Nolah’s mattress sales are consistent across holiday weekends, and our discount helps you save an extra 7% on the Queen-size Original mattress.
IN OUR TESTS: Testers and survey respondents with conditions like sciatica and scoliosis gave the Nolah Original top scores for pressure relief and support. Every tester with chronic back pain was surprised by how comfortable it was and reported improved sleep quality. We also like that it uses zoned foam (rare for all-foam beds): This means it's firmer in the lumbar region, which is designed to maintain a neutral spinal alignment as you sleep.

Mattress Firm Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Until September 29, you can score up to $700 off select mattresses from top brands like Sealy, Serta, Sleepy’s, and Beautyrest. You can also get a King bed for the price of a Queen, or buy a Queen bed for the price of a Twin-size bed.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Mattress Firm has a variety of our favorite mattress brands to choose from, and we love how shipping is faster than other retailers.
IN OUR TESTS: Beautyrest Black is one of the most well-known luxury mattresses, and its recent upgrades have excelled in true comfort and quality support. "The mixture of foam and coils is a really nice marriage of support and stability while also getting a pillow-top feel that's luxurious to sink into," said one of our consumer testers.
Stearns & Foster Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Now through September 15, take $300 off our pick for a firm bed among the best mattresses, the Estate Mattress. You can also take $300 off The Studio, $600 off The Lux Estate, or $700 off The Reserve, which are great options as well (the Estate is just our top pick!).
WHY WE LOVE IT: The firmness rating of this traditional innerspring mattress is a 9 out of 10 (or a 7 out of 10 with the pillow top firm), so it’s great for those who prefer a firm mattress, sleep on their stomach, or have a heavier body weight.
IN OUR TESTS: After evaluating the Estate Mattress and considering feedback from testers who slept on this bed at home, we rated it as one of the best firm mattresses. “I love how firm and structured the mattress felt,” one tester shared. “I've been sleeping much more soundly.”

Tempur-Pedic Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Tempur-Pedic is offering $500 off the ProBreeze, LuxeBreeze, and LuxeAdapt and $700 off the ActiveBreeze Mattress Set. The deal lasts now through September 15.
WHY WE LOVE IT: We’re fans of Tempur-Pedic mattresses, and we especially like the brand’s Breeze line for its cooling properties. The LuxeBreeze helps keep you up to 10 degrees cooler at night as you sleep (and the brand has testing data to support this claim!). If you’re looking to spend a bit less, we also like the ProBreeze, which helps keep you five degrees cooler throughout the night, according to the brand.
IN OUR TESTS: Our consumer testers told us this mattress ran a bit firm and had excellent cooling capabilities. One shared, “I’m not overheating throughout the night as often (if ever), which used to happen pretty frequently” on their old mattress.

Tuft & Needle Labor Day Mattress Deal
THE DEAL: This Labor Day, take 25% off the T&N Original. Plus, you can get 25% off all mattresses, accessories, and bundles (except select adjustable bases).
WHY WE LOVE IT: This foam mattress is cushioning and supportive, and it’s even available on Amazon, so it can also arrive at your door in just a few days—which is great if you need a bed ASAP.
IN OUR TESTS: Our consumer testers said this mattress arrived quickly, was easy to set up, and has a medium-firm feel with some pressure relief. When it comes to T&N’s accessories, our pros rated the brand’s Original Pillow Set as the best foam pick in our best pillows roundup. "Usually when brands give away pillows or bedding, it's not great stuff or worth a lot, but these are pillows that are really nice," Wu said.

Brooklyn Bedding Labor Day Sale
THE DEAL: Ahead of Labor Day, Brooklyn Bedding is offering 25% off, but you can get 32% off sitewide with our exclusive code GH32 for our readers.
WHY WE LOVE IT: With this discount, you can save $699 on the Aurora Luxe Mattress, which is our pros’ best cooling pick for soft mattresses. Soft mattresses typically use memory foam, which notoriously traps heat. So the Aurora Luxe offers truly a luxurious sleep experience for those who run hot but want a soft bed.
IN OUR TESTS: GH Home Reviews Analyst Amanda Constantine said the Aurora Luxe is one of her favorites among the several cooling mattresses she has tested over the years. "There’s an initial icy feel when I lie down, which fades while I sleep, but I rarely wake up too warm. If I do, adjusting my position brings instant relief,” she said.

Is Labor Day a good time to buy a new mattress?
Historically, holiday weekends like Labor Day are typically the best time of year to save on mattresses. "While mattress companies offer discounts and sales throughout the year, a holiday weekend is when you'll see the most consistent and competitive offers across brands," says Lexie Sachs, director of strategy and operations at the Good Housekeeping Institute, who has tested mattresses in the Lab for over a decade.
This year, a few Labor Day deals are better than those we saw during Fourth of July weekend and even Memorial Day weekend. But if you have your heart set on a particular brand or mattress and you don't love the discount you're seeing right now, it may be worth waiting for the next holiday weekend sale (Black Friday is sooner than you think!).
