If there's one thing that Pokémon and Squishmallows have in common, it's that they both evoke a collector's mindset. Whether it's chasing rare trading cards or stockpiling plush until there's no room left on the bed (to cite a random example only slightly related to the state of my 10-year-old's room), the two brands really attract fans that want to "catch 'em all." So, when they come together for Pokémon Squishmallows, the urge to buy only increases.
Thankfully, if you have a collector or two in your midst and want to pick up a couple of birthday, just because, or even early Easter gifts, right now it's easy to add more plush to the collection because several Pokémon Squishmallows are now majorly discounted on Amazon at up to 50% off. Whether the sale is tied to Pokémon Day—or February 27 for the uninitiated, with this year's Pokémon Day marking the 30th anniversary of Pokémon—or if it's just a lucky coincidence is unclear, but fans would be wise to take advantage, because these deals don't come around that often.
What I love about these deals as a parenting editor (and a new-ish Pokémon fan) is that they're really stretched across a wide variety of Pokémon and plushes. The sizes range from small bag clips—so trendy right now—to huge, 20-inch Pokémon like Torchic and another Rowlet. The characters themselves also range from old favorites like Snorlax to newer Paldea starters like Sprigatito and Fuecoco.
If their favorite isn't on this list, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist in Squishmallow form—it just might not be as heavily discounted. Characters like Pikachu, Togepi, Dragonite, and Gengar are available (all while supplies last), so long as you're willing to pay full price. (Me? I'm holding out hope they'll eventually make a Swablu.)
And for the play set kids—the ones who'd rather have figures instead of plush—there's also a Pokémon Center Squish-a-Long Play Set. These come with four, one-inch figures—Chansey, Marill, Pikachu, and Snorlax—plus a miniature Pokémon Center for them to use in imaginative play. While it doesn't seem to be discounted for Pokémon Day, the price—just $20—isn't as high as some of the other Pokémon Squishmallow offerings. Either way, no matter how they play, it's a great day to be a Poké fan.
