Now’s as good a time as any to buy a new dishwasher if yours has suddenly stopped working (or is on its way out). Because it’s Amazon Prime Day, other retailers are having competitive sales to keep up, so you’ll find discounts everywhere. But it’s important not to let the sale sticker price pressure you into buying just any model. Since it’s a big purchase—and one that should last you many years—you’re going to want to go with a top-tested model from the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Home Care & Cleaning Lab.
In its tests, the one that came out on top was the Miele Fully Integrated Smart Dishwasher thanks to its outstanding cleaning performance. But it’s pricey—coming in at over $2,000. Not to worry, though, not every model on our list was in that range. In fact, the Lab’s Best Value Pick is actually under $550 right now.
Normally priced around $700, the LG 24-in Front Control Built-in Dishwasher is on sale at Lowe’s for 25% off, making it a reasonable $530.
Now, just because it’s a great price doesn’t mean it’s lacking in cleaning power. According to our experts, the LG did a great job cleaning and drying dishes—and had no issue removing lipstick from cups.
What’s really cool is that thanks to the Flex Zone mode, you can send extra cleaning power to the rack with your dirtiest dishes. It also has a Night Dry mode so if you’re doing dishes overnight—which, BTW, may help save money if you have off-peak electricity rates—it’ll automatically open the dishwasher door so steam can escape. That means, by the time you wake up, your dishes will be dry and ready to put away.
Of course, like all good things, it has a few minor flaws: The top rack doesn’t include fold-down cup shelves, and there’s no third rack. So loading wine glasses or oversized items may take a bit more arranging. Our experts also noted that it was slightly louder than some other models.
But to be honest, these weren’t deal breakers for our pros. In fact, because of its near-perfect cleaning score in our tests, it earned a 2024 Kitchen Gear Award, so you know it lives up to the hype.
