- The Beauty Lab-tested Dyson Airwrap and its many attachments are recommended as an all-in-one styling tool.
- Beauty Lab Director Sabina Wizemann says it’s worked well on her “fine but dense” hair at any length.
- Right now, the sleeker, updated version—the Airwrap i.d.—is 30% off in an Amazon-exclusive deal.
I remember when the Dyson Airwrap first arrived in the Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab; it was clear that it was unlike anything we had seen or tested before. The blowdryer, curling wand, and round-brush hybrid looked futuristic enough, but watching hair wrap itself around the barrel (thanks to the Coanda effect) felt, and still feels, magical.
Dyson ushered in a new technology and a new category of styling tools—eliminating much of the juggling between brush and dryer or curling iron—all while changing the way we styled hair at home. Perhaps most impressive, eight years later, the Airwrap remains one of the most coveted hair tools for seamless at-home styling.
Right now, it’s on sale for 30% off during Amazon’s October Prime Day. Plus, the Amazon-exclusive set comes with a bonus gift: Dyson’s post-styling serum.
So far, there have been three generations of the Airwrap: the original Airwrap, Airwrap i.d., and the Airwrap Co-anda2x with an additional motor upgrade and air pressure.
The Airwrap i.d. is Dyson's first-ever connected hair tool, which means it syncs with an app that automates the curling process based on a user's hair type, length, and skill level. It also eliminates the need to toggle between settings, so even first-timers will find it easy to use.
Along with performance testing from the Beauty Lab, the Airwrap i.d. was put to the test by Jessica Teich, a former staffer at GH. "I was thrilled to see that the i.d. integrates the adapter into the power plug, making the cord easier to maneuver and nets out to being 0.1 pound lighter overall," Teich said of the tool.
I agree. My only previous storage gripe was always the bulky cord, which can be a challenge if drawer space is tight. But I love its versatility: I can dry, curl, wave, smooth and add volume with one tool, and I find it easier to use (and store) than juggling multiple stylers.
I use the Airwrap often, but I find it especially invaluable when my hair is cut into a shorter bob; it gives me my best volume and curl hold. With longer hair, I love the ease of straightening my hair with the smoothing brush attachment, and when adding waves, I rely more on styling and finishing products to help curls last.
My hair is fine but dense, and it responds better to the Airwrap’s combination of airflow and heat than just to the higher temperatures of traditional flat and curling irons, which can leave it feeling rough even after my next shampoo. The controls are intuitive, too; at this point, I barely have to look at them.
If you're as excited to try the Dyson Airwrap i.d. as I was, now's your chance; it’s back down to its lowest price ever on Amazon.
