I’ve been tracking deals on the best walking shoes during Amazon’s October Prime Day (which ends tonight), and I’m still seeing major discounts on top-tested sneakers, sandals, and more. Right now, there are discounts up to 69% off top-performing walking shoes from our tests in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab. These deals even include popular brands I love like Brooks, Adidas, and New Balance.

Can’t-miss Prime Day deals on walking shoes:

Our footwear experts have tested over 70 shoes in our most recent evaluations, and we enlisted over 250 consumer testers to wear them while walking and give us feedback. As someone who cannot sit still, I’ve also tried around a dozen different sneakers, walking sandals, and hiking shoes.

Many of my favorites are also top picks from our experts (I’m always asking them for recommendations!), and there are some steep discounts on these shoes. Just note that the price can vary based on the size and color you choose.

On Sale
Ghost 17

Pros

  • Excellent cushioning
  • Multiple width options
  • Comfortable and supportive

Cons

  • Some of our consumer testers found them too firm

THE DEAL: Take 27% off our best overall walking sneaker pick.

WHY WE LOVE IT: "These sneakers support my entire foot without feeling too heavy, and I often use them on the treadmill because they have plenty of arch support and offer a stable fit," says Textiles Lab Associate Director Emma Seymour.

This shoe's ample cushioning and comfy heel are excellent for long walks, commuting, and working on your feet all day. We also love that the shoe comes in regular, narrow, wide, and extra-wide sizes so you can find your perfect fit. One tester with chronic foot pain said she usually finds "no shoes comfortable to wear, but these are amazing."

NOTE: While the Ghost 18 is Brooks' latest model, it's not on sale. Having logged 30 miles a week as a runner, I'd happily save the money and choose the Ghost 17—the updates between these are pretty minor.

  • Lightweight
  • Flexible with each movement
  • Bouncy feel

Cons

  • Most colors are low in inventory

THE DEAL: Take up to 50% off this sneaker that’s one of our favorite running shoes for women (but it’s also great for walking!)

WHY WE LOVE IT: These sneakers were recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association for supporting good foot health. The Boost foam in these sneakers is designed to redirect energy back into your feet, giving the shoes a bouncy, supportive feel. They’re also lightweight and breathable.

Pros

  • Cute style and color for hiking shoes
  • Excellent traction
  • Comfortable and lightweight
  • Easy to pack

Cons

  • Not the easiest to clean

THE DEAL: Get 50% off these perfectly pink hiking sneakers.

WHY WE LOVE IT: I’m all about making my hiking outfits girly and cute, so I loved wearing these sneakers on my recent trip to Utah. I have them in the Mediterranea/Pale Lilac colorway, which is not on sale, but I love this pastel pink option that is. I also love that the shoe comes with two shoelaces to swap between colors.

Beyond aesthetics, this sneaker was incredibly comfortable, lightweight, and surprisingly breathable. I walked up to 10 miles each day in Utah in 90-degree heat, and I had no blisters (and my feet, ankles, and knees were pain-free). The shoe has excellent traction, which came in handy when I hiked on sandy canyon rocks. They’re not the easiest to clean, but they’re easy to pack, making them the perfect sneaker for traveling—from walking on a forest trail to walking around town.

Verdict Sneaker

Pros

  • Suede detailing adds an elevated touch
  • Can be dressed up or down
  • Mesh for breathability

Cons

  • Not the most supportive for long walks

THE DEAL: Take 68% off this stylish sneaker that’ll go with any outfit but feel comfortable to wear.

WHY WE LOVE IT: I love Steve Madden’s shoes for their cute styles and affordable comfort. These tan, gold, and cream sneakers with suede detailing are the perfect neutral, classy sneaker to pair with a casual or dressy outfit. The mesh siding on the Verdict Sneaker adds some breathability and a unique texture, and I love the subtle gold stripes. It’s the perfect daily shoe for a vacation where you’ll be walking a lot but still dressed nicely.

Ryka Devotion Plus 3

Pros

  • Cushioned and supportive
  • Segmented outsole is ideal for traction
  • Designed with a woman's foot shape in mind

Cons

  • Not the most durable

THE DEAL: Get a 35% discount on these top-performing women’s walking shoes.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Podiatrists say these sneakers have superb cushioning. They’re specifically designed with a woman’s foot in mind, featuring a narrower heel and a roomier toe box for a more comfortable fit. “We liked the segmented outsole for traction on all types of walks, but noted that the foam didn’t appear as durable as other styles,” Seymour said.

Receiving perfect scores for cushioning and support from our panel of testers, these shoes are also great for long walks outside. One of our consumer testers was impressed by "how lightweight and breathable these were," and another said she felt like she was "walking on clouds."

Merrell Moab 3

Pros

  • Stylish
  • Breathable

Cons

  • Slower drying time

THE DEAL: Take 34% off these beige hiking sneakers.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Our experts’ top pick for hiking boots is the Merrell Moab 3, and this is the shoe version of those boots. Some people prefer hiking shoes over boots because they're more lightweight (though they’re heavier than a traditional running sneaker) and feel more breathable. These shoes will help support your feet for long days on the trail, whether you’re climbing a mountain or going on a woodsy stroll. We also love that there are mesh panels for breathability.

Pros

  • Slip-on design
  • Lightweight
  • Mesh material helps with breathability

Cons

  • Less cushioning than others

THE DEAL: Take 39% off these sneakers that are great for walking and other workouts like HIIT classes.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This versatile New Balance cross-trainer is great for walking, fitness classes, and strength training sessions.

The shoe features a slip-on design with a tongue that stays in place, making them easy to put on and take off. They’re also incredibly lightweight, so they won't feel heavy on your feet or in your gym bag.

"Right when I put them on, they started molding to my feet," one tester said. Giving high marks across the board for cushioning and comfort, testers unanimously said they would continue wearing these shoes. They also noted the shoe was breathable, thanks to the mesh upper.

Pros

  • Cushioned
  • Keeps feet stable
  • Helps prevent knee, foot, hip, and ankle pain

Cons

  • Can feel a bit stiff

THE DEAL: Runners can save $30 on these cushioned, stable sneakers.

WHY WE LOVE IT: These sneakers offer superb cushioning and arch support while keeping runners’ feet stable, according to our testers. Paired with ample cushioning and a high heel-to-toe drop (12 mm), this makes a sneaker that helps reduce knee, foot, hip, and ankle pain. The shoes can feel a bit stiff, so make sure to give yourself time to break these in before a race.

“When I was experiencing foot pain, I relied on my pair of the Adrenaline GTS 23 (a previous version), which offered snug support throughout the shoe and was even comfortable during long distances," Seymour said.

Pros

  • Stylish yet comfortable
  • Stable, supportive feel
  • Breathable mesh sections

Cons

  • Not cushioned enough for runs

THE DEAL: Get 45% off one of our favorite white sneakers for casual wear.

WHY WE LOVE IT: When I commute to our office in New York City, I like to wear these comfy sneakers because I take a ton of steps, plus go up and down several flights of stairs. I never want to sacrifice comfort for style, so I like that these off-white sneakers look stylish and pair well with jeans, trousers, and midi dresses. They have suede and leather detailing, and mesh sections for added breathability.

“There's a bit more cushion and extra support near the arch,” said Grace Wu, a senior analyst in the Textiles Lab. They’re not as cushioned as a running sneaker, so I wouldn’t wear them for long, fast walks, but I like that they feel more stable than most running sneakers.

Pros

  • Can help reduce/prevent knee and back pain
  • Roomy toe box is ideal for wide feet
  • Zero drop promotes proper walking and running form
  • Cushioned

Cons

  • Not the best for flat feet or those with ankle pain
  • Has an adjustment period

THE DEAL: During Prime Day, you can take 34% off these zero-drop walking shoes.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This shoe's zero-drop design encourages your foot to sit in a more "natural" position, which promotes striking the ground with your midfoot, rather than your heel. It can take a bit of time to adjust, but it can help alleviate pain by reducing the force going through your knees and lower back.

Our pros especially like this sneaker for walking because it has a roomy toe box to help prevent blisters or bunions, and it's more comfortable for wide feet. "I didn't feel like anything was rubbing or causing blisters," shared one tester, who found the sizing to be spot on. Other testers said they appreciated the lightweight feel and cushioning comfort of these sneakers.

best walking sandal

Chaco Chaco Z1 Classic

Pros

  • Grippy outsole
  • Open design
  • Testers report solid arch support

Cons

  • Takes some break-in time

THE DEAL: Take 25% off our experts’ pick for the best overall walking sandal.

WHY WE LOVE IT: These shoes are excellent for hikers, beachgoers, paddleboarders, or anyone who likes to walk in sandals. The grippy outsole helps prevent slipping when you walk through rivers or on rough terrain, and the open design lets your toes breathe. They are a bit stiff due to the durable PU midsole—but once they’re broken in, the footbed feels cushioned and comfortable for long-distance walking. Seymour said her “high arches felt completely supported, which is rare.”
