Hollywood icon Julie Andrews announced she is releasing a new children’s book with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.

Julie’s latest book, Shy, will debut on bookshelves on August 11, 2026.

Fans were ecstatic after learning of the Mary Poppins star’s sentimental news.

Mary Poppins fans, Julie Andrews has a new project in the works — and you’re going to want to pay attention.

Since she first rose to fame in the 1950s, viewers have watched her take on popular roles in The Sound of Music, The Princess Diaries franchise, and many more recognizable films.

But when she’s not on the big screen, Julie enjoys a thriving literary career alongside her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, whom she shares with her late ex-husband, Tony Walton. The mother-daughter duo has co-written several children’s books over the years, but they haven’t released anything new since September 2023.

Luckily, that’s about to change! Julie and Emma are teaming up for another children’s book, according to a surprise announcement revealed on Instagram. In the post, Julie shared a sneak peek at the cover of the upcoming book titled Shy, adding that it will be available on August 11, 2026. In the meantime, readers can pre-order the book online.

“We are delighted to announce that Julie and Emma’s next picture book, SHY, illustrated by Eva Byrne and inspired by Julie’s own ‘singing’ dog, is now available for pre-sale!” the caption read.

When fans saw that the Academy Award winner was working on a heartfelt new project, many were already sharing their excitement.

“Oh my daughter will be thrilled!!! 😍😍😍 we’re obsessed with you!” one person exclaimed in the comments.

“Aww 🥹💜 so cute and looking forward to reading it,” another said.

“Wonderful news, Julie! Congratulations ❤️❤️,” a different follower added.

According to the book’s publisher, Abrams Books, Shy follows a —you guessed it — shy and quiet puppy who gets adopted by a man who loves to play the piano. The puppy falls in love with the joy of music, just as its dog dad prepares for a performance that’ll change both of their lives.

In the post’s comments, fans were clearly curious about more than just the book’s plot. They wanted to know if this new book release would mean they’d also have the chance to meet the star IRL.

“Will you do signings?” one person inquired.

“Following to know about signings too!” another agreed.

“The fans need book signings! 🩷,” echoed someone else.

We’re definitely looking forward to Julie’s latest venture with her daughter, and we can’t wait to pick up this book when it officially hits shelves.
