Nathan Fillion is trading in being a cop at LAPD Mid-Wilshire for something a little different.

Longtime fans know the actor for starring on The Rookie for the last eight seasons on ABC. While the show is gearing up for season 9, Nathan is using his downtime to work on another project that fans may already be familiar with.

As he shared on Instagram on May 18, Nathan is set to star in Lanterns, a new series premiering on August 16, 2026, on HBO. What’s more, Nathan will portray a character called Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern that fans previously met when he appeared in the Superman movie reboot back in 2025.

“Are you afraid?” Nathan wrote in the caption alongside a promo video for the new superhero drama. “#Lanterns premieres August 16 on @hbomax.”

As soon as Nathan announced what he’s working on, some of his co-stars had to get involved and exclaim their excitement for him.

“NATHANNNNNN!!!!!! Let’s go!! Let’s goooooo!!!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😍😍😍😍😍😍😍,” Lisseth Chavez (who portrays Celina Juarez) shouted in the comments. “🔥🔥🔥🔥 amazing 👏👏👏👏👏💚💚💚💚,” Alyssa Diaz (who plays Angela Lopez) added.

And just like Nathan’s Rookie co-stars, fans were equally ecstatic to see him back on the small screen.

“Booked and busy!!! 💚💚,” one person cheered. “This looks incredible. I can’t WAIT to watch it,” another agreed. “Nathan better get some good screen time in this,” a different follower noted.

Now, for those curious about the premise of Lanterns, the show (which is part of the broader DC universe) sees veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler) and recruit John Stewart (portrayed by Aaron Pierre) investigate a grim murder that happened in a small town in Nebraska. As the two try to solve what quickly becomes a shocking conspiracy, they also need to balance both old- and new-school methods as Green Lanterns to solve the case.
