A familiar face will return to NCIS—sort of.
In 2009, fans were introduced to Eric Christian Olsen as Marty Deeks on the spinoff series NCIS: Los Angeles. Originally intended as a recurring role in season 1, the character developed a major following among viewers and critics alike. Eric was upgraded to a series regular for season 2, and stayed on NCIS: Los Angeles until the show ended after 14 seasons in 2023.
According to an announcement by Deadline on June 30, the actor will return to the NCIS universe in a new capacity.
According to the outlet, Eric will take over as the executive producer for the NCIS prequel series, NCIS: Origins, under his production company, Cloud Nine Productions, ahead of season 3. And as the show prepares to premiere new episodes this fall on CBS, Eric took to Instagram to tease his excitement for his new gig.
“Couldn't be more excited for everyone to see what we have planned for season three,” he wrote in the caption.
Fans were elated by his new gig.
“Let’s go!!!!!! So happy for you EO!” one person cheered in the comments. “Great news Eric! They couldn’t be in better hands!” another exclaimed. “Awesome! Congrats! Even more excited for season 3 now. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻,” a different follower added.
Eric isn’t the only fan-favorite coming to the NCIS: Origins universe this season. Mark Harmon (who originated the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and serves as an executive producer and narrator) will return to TV for a season-long arc after exiting the franchise in 2021. And elsewhere in the world of NCIS, Michael Weatherly (who plays Tony DiNozzo) is coming back for season 24.
NCIS: Origins follows a young Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) as he spends his time at Camp Pendleton in the early 1990s. The show also features Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote.
Congrats, Eric!
