Tracker season 4 premieres on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on CBS.
Actor Jensen Ackles announced he will star in a new TV series, called Rules of Prey.
Fans may wonder whether Jensen will leave Tracker, where he portrays Russell Shaw.
As fans get ready for Tracker season 4, we have some news to share about Jensen Ackles.
New episodes are premiering on Sunday, October 4, 2026, and fans are elated to see the actor return as Russell Shaw this season. But some of us are a little worried about his future on the show, as Jensen announced on Instagram that he’s starring in a new drama series called Rules of Prey.
Based on the John Sandford book of the same name (and the first of the Prey book series), Rules of Prey has already gotten a green light from MGM+. And if that’s not enough, Jensen will also be an executive producer on the upcoming show.
Jensen also took to the comments to share his excitement about the new gig. “And off we go!!!” he wrote.
As soon as fans discovered this news about Jensen’s latest role, they couldn’t hold back their excitement.
“Cannot wait to watch this Jensen 👏👏🤩,” one person wrote in the comments. “UM WHAT. Jensen is book thriller shaped!!!!” another exclaimed. “Dude!! I love this for you!! And for us fans too!! ❤️❤️,” a different follower added.
Deadline writes that Jensen will portray Lucas Davenport, a former detective brought back into the Minneapolis Police Department to “investigate a series of confounding murders designed to send a message specifically to him.” But as Davenport works the case, he must risk everything to stop a killer who uses a personal vendetta to match wits with those trying to stop him.
Now, for the bigger question—what does this mean for Jensen’s future on Tracker? He’s always been a guest star when it comes to portraying Russell, so fans likely don’t have to worry about his exit any time soon.
“After a long, much needed, summer break with the fam … it does feel good to be back on a set,” he wrote on Instagram while filming Tracker season 4 back in August.
Phew!
