A formulation of trendy ashwagandha sold at Whole Foods has been recalled.

On October 30, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a company announcement stating that Vitality Works Inc. of Albuquerque, NM, is recalling one lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules. The recalled product was sold nationwide from November 24, 2025, through October 20, 2026, at Whole Foods stores and at Amazon.com.

A routine sampling of the capsules found they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Thankfully, no illnesses linked to the recall have been reported so far.

The FDA announcement states, “the organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organisms entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.”
