On October 19, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an enforcement report announcing 17 Class II nationwide recalls of adults’ and kids’ toothpaste. The toothpaste was manufactured by Pritam International Private Limited and distributed in the U.S. by Ashtel Studios Inc. Pritam initiated the voluntary recall on September 10 for 4,301,700 tubes.

The FDA states that the reason for the recalls is Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) deviations. While specific details weren’t provided by the agency, CGMP regulations ensure that products—like anticavity toothpaste, which are regulated like OTC drugs—are made correctly and consistently.

A Class II recall means that if you’re exposed to or use a product, you could experience temporary or medically treatable adverse health problems, or that serious adverse health issues are unlikely. The enforcement report didn’t include any information as to whether any illnesses have been reported as linked to the recall.

What to do if you have any of the recalled products

The FDA hasn’t provided any specific instructions regarding what to do with the products, but because they are part of a recall, it’s safest to stop using them. You should contact the retailer or manufacturer for information regarding refunds.
