A kitchen refresh often means swapping in new appliances and contemplating cabinets, but color is a big part of the design story, as well. For 2027, as more people embrace maximalism, bold colors are really taking off. We’re also seeing an influx of warm and organic tones that envelope you—a big change from the crisp white kitchens of yesteryear.

We spoke with a handful of designers about their predictions for the top 2027 kitchen color trends poised to take off next year. From beautiful neutrals to unexpected bold hues, here’s where kitchens are headed in the coming months.

Herbal greens will continue evolving in 2027, according to interior designer Sasha Bikoff. She says she’s especially seeing muted hues inspired by sage, rosemary, and the silvery foliage of a Mediterranean garden.

“I love these shades on kitchen cabinetry paired with creamy natural stone, warm wood, and unlacquered brass,” she says. “They have a wonderful ability to make a kitchen feel both fresh and grounded, while bringing the tranquility of an outdoor garden into the home.”

Aubergine kitchens really took hold in the latter half of 2027, and their popularity will only continue. “Although purple might seem as an odd color for use in kitchens, I find that the darker, earthy type colors can appear quite sophisticated and near neutral when used with complementary surfaces,” says Swati Goorha, founder and principal designer of Swati Goorha Design.

While many are embracing bold kitchen colors in 2027, neutrals still have a place. Jamie Pactor, interior designer with Horizon Lane Interiors, says one of his favorite colors to use is mushroom or taupe shades.

“They feel timeless, but have more warmth and depth,” he explains. “My overall prediction is that kitchens will mix bold colors and finishes more: warm neutral perimeter cabinets, a painted island, and natural wood accents.”

Chocolate Brown

Brown tones are another major callout for 2027 across all of design, and kitchens are getting in on the espresso, chocolate-y goodness.

“Brown is incredibly underrated and can feel like an extension of the wood and natural stone around it,” says designer Claire Zinnecker. “On cabinetry, it brings a cozy moodiness that I love.”

She says the key is choosing a shade with warmth and introducing variation through the surrounding materials so the room doesn’t feel too heavy.

Caramel Cream

If deep brown feels too intense but you like the direction, then caramel cream kitchens could feel just right. Designer Kanika Bakshi Khurana, says this one’s a clear departure from the cool, bright tones we’ve seen in the past, and really captures the warmth everyone’s craving in interiors right now.

She says, “If you choose to use caramel-colored cabinets, the lighter the countertop material and the whiter your walls can be. A natural wood accent will add depth and avoid creating a darker space.”

Blue-Gray

For 2027 kitchen color trends, Zinnecker notes you can expect more muddy, muted blue-grays in kitchens—especially shades with a subtle green undertone. “They have a softness and depth that feels right at home alongside natural materials,” Zinnecker explains. “I love them on cabinetry paired with warm wood and aged hardware. The right shade feels like it could have been in an old farmhouse for years.”

Earthy Yellows

Goorha says soft yellow (or butter yellow fever) will evolve into some forms that are softer and more subdued, like earth-toned ochres and golds. “These colors add a happy, warm feel to a kitchen, especially if they are paired with dark woods, natural stone, and warm whites,” Goorha explains.

Instead of painting your entire kitchen yellow, she suggests painting one cabinet door yellow as part of a pantry, using the color for an island, or painting select pieces of cabinetry as a design element.
