Trinny Woodall doesn’t flinch when it comes to thorny beauty issues, whether it’s dissolving unwanted filler, disguising smelly hair or battling menopausal skin redness. However, her latest beauty adventure has had some of her followers wincing as she dives into a whole new taboo: middle-aged lady nasal hair.

‘Some of the things in life you only learn to do when you’re post-50,’ she tells her Instagram followers, lying back on a couch in the hands of her long-term beauty therapist, Nisha Patel. ‘And one of them is the removal of nasal hair.’

Trinny adds, ‘Now, it’s not something I ever considered was an issue with me until Nisha said to me, “Trinny, you need to remove your nasal hair. It’s the most life-changing thing”. So here we go. I’m going to show you how it works.’

The clip shows Nisha applying wax to the very outer part of Trinny’s nostrils, and explaining the thinking behind it. ‘Removing the nasal hair, it really gives a very good clean nose lift basically,’ Nisha says. ‘It looks so clean, neat and tidy.’

Her beauty therapist goes in with the wax

Ever the multi-tasker, Trinny reveals her nose isn’t the only body part being tidied up during her beauty session, panning briefly to a second therapist at work. ‘I’ve got a double whammy of wax removal going on right now. Delightful Sonia is obviously doing the bottom part,’ she shares.

As you’d expect, having hair plucked from nostrils (or anywhere else) isn’t the most pleasant experience, and Nisha is by necessity a master of distraction. Trinny explains, ‘[The wax] goes in, it stays on here for a while, and then we keep talking, so I don’t know when she’s going to pull it out.’

Then one quick tug mid-chat, a sharp intake of breath, and ‘it’s out and done’, says Trinny. ‘Oh my god! I have a nose lift!’

Trinny says that ‘forcibly evicting nose hair’ has become a regular part of her beauty regime, one which she describes as ‘character building’.

The video has had a decidedly mixed reception, however. Some followers are firmly with Trinny on the nasal wax experience: ‘I always feel 100 times better after having my nose lifted. Been doing this for years and no troubles here either 🫶,’ posts one.

Trinny calls nasal waxing a ’needs must’ treatment

However, others are horrified by the removal, cautioning that nasal hair serves a practical purpose.

While it may not be aesthetically pleasing, those tiny hairs act as a protective filter against airborne pollutants, allergens and infections and also help to trap moisture for a healthy nasal cavity. That’s something worth bearing in mind, especially if you are sensitive to airborne allergens such as pollen.

Trinny herself notes that she’s in ‘very safe hands’ with an experienced beauty therapist, and she does only have the very edges of the inner nostril waxed (ie the bits that poke out), rather than having the entire hairy eco-system ripped out.

If nasal waxing is something you’re considering, we’d definitely say it’s one for the professionals, as safety and hygiene is of the utmost importance here. Some professionals advise against it entirely, not least due to the potential risk of infections that can turn nasty. In short, do not try this one at home.
