She’s an award-winning actress, but we think Hannah Waddingham could also add beauty icon to her CV. The star has given us no shortage of beauty inspiration lately — from her glowing fake tan to her soft chrome manicure. Now, she’s proving that sometimes the simplest tricks are the best, with an easy old-school makeup hack that’s especially flattering on women over 50.
Hannah has certainly been keeping busy, moving from one press tour to the next while consistently serving up incredible beauty looks. Last night was no exception, as she stepped out for a Ted Lasso event in Los Angeles.
The look was nothing short of jaw-dropping. Hannah wore a striking one-shoulder dress, paired with a bouncy blow-dry and her signature glow. Her makeup looked especially polished and, on closer inspection, it was all thanks to one classic beauty trick.
A closer look reveals that Hannah matched her eyeshadow, blush and lipstick, all in a soft baby pink hue.
‘Using a trio of the same shade really brings balance and harmony to the makeup look,’ says celebrity makeup artist Fiona Florczak. ‘It gives you an ease of knowing your makeup is always going to work – there are no clashing tones. Just really beautiful and soft.’
Matching your eyes, cheeks and lips creates a cohesive look, which is why the technique is so universally flattering. Better still, it takes the guesswork out of choosing colours. ‘It saves a lot of time,’ Fiona says. ‘It’s also brilliant for on-the-go touch-ups since one product can do three jobs.’

If you’re going to bring one item with you, Fiona recommends lipstick. ‘You can double lipstick up as blush, and it will even add an extra dash of glow,’ she says. ‘Using your ring finger, try pressing a little bit of lip colour on to the apples of your cheeks. The creamy colour will add moisture, radiance and harmony to your look. It ties everything together nicely and it looks really considered.’
She says the soft pink shade is especially flattering for Hannah. ‘This shade works so well for Hannah’s features. The cool tones in pink work so well in accentuating her blue eyes, and in the blush, it also helps to bring out the warm tones in her skin.’
The lip, of course, brings any look together. ‘Hannah has a killer smile,’ she says. ‘Adding a nude lip liner to the lips and filling in with a warm glossy pink frames her wide smile perfectly.’
Consider this proof that you don’t need a makeup bag full of products to achieve a red-carpet-worthy look.
