The secret sauce of Claudia Winkleman’s Traitors outfits is the high-low mix and the accessible silhouettes that mean we can all get the look on the high street. For every Burberry duffle coat and Bottega Veneta boot, there will be a Spanx legging or a stripy COS knit.
The only fly in the ointment is the fact that many of the pieces tend to be low in stock or sold out by the time the show airs – because, as Claudia’s stylist Sinead McKeefry told us, they film in the summer, which means she's at least one season ahead of us. So how do you get Claudia’s Traitors wardrobe before she does? Head to McKeefry’s favourite high-street brands ahead of time and snap them up before Claudia wears them on the show.
Here’s where to shop every Traitors staple when the time comes. You have your homework Faithfuls.
For knitwear, go to...COS
When I spoke to the fabulous McKeefry this summer ahead of Celebrity Traitors, she told me that she snaps up COS’ fine-knit turtlenecks for layering under everything and we’ve spotted them countless times since: under a Hambro & Miller knitted vest; under a Nadine Merabi mini dress, the list goes on.
But we suggest also checking out the brand’s slightly oversized knits. This striped jumper made an appearance in series four. These are our picks from this season’s collection.
For tailoring, go to...Reiss
Reiss got a big shout out from Claudia’s stylist as one of the best places on the high street for tailoring, whether that’s the flared green trousers or the tailored double-breasted coat from the brand’s atelier, which have both appeared in series four. (McKeefry also likes The Kooples for a more rock ‘n’ roll approach to suiting.)
Next time you’re looking for that new blazer, coat or tailored trouser, you know where to go.
For velvet blazers, go to...Jigsaw
This one’s pretty straightforward, if you want a velvet blazer for your own roundtable interrogations, then head to Jigsaw, which usually brings out a couple of options around Christmas. Reiss’ velvet jackets have also featured if the colourways aren’t to your liking. Wear with your Spanx and a pussybow blouse. Always.
For pretty shirts and blouses, go to...ME+EM
Speaking of which…ME+EM is the shop of choice for blouses and shirts with quirky detail, whether it’s a bow or a little diamante on the collar (just seen in the picture above from series two) or a frill at the cuff. This is high-end high street, so it’s worth checking out the sales throughout the year, and these are investment pieces you’ll wear again and again. Just like Claudia.
For leggings, go to...Spanx (of course)
These are a show staple, worn with blazers and blouses, shackets and more. They ones Claudia wears are the Spanx Scuba leggings at £100. Yes, it’s a lot for a pair of leggings but they’re a Traitors classic all fashion faithfuls need in their wardrobe. Altogether now, “I am, and always have been...”
For accessories and Fair Isle knits, go to...Brora
You can guarantee Brora will appear multiple times in every series, whether it’s the fabulous wool coats (we’ve seen two in series four alone), the Fair Isle knits or, of course, the cosy beanies and fingerless gloves. This is another brand that’s worth checking out at sale time and shopping ahead, as the pieces don’t change much season to season and you can get good discounts.
Sinead McKeefry also often works with the Brora, curating her favourite pieces from the collections, so this is one brand that will always make it into the edit.
For prints and co-ords, go to....Zara
If you ever spot a slightly-out-of-the-ordinary co-ord or print on the show, chances are, it’s from Zara. Take the geometric-print culottes and pussy bow blouse combo from this series, for example – it was from the ZW Collection, Zara’s premium range.
McKeefry name-checked the high-street favourite in our interview, saying she often snaps up pieces to pair with designer buys, and she also featured a brown coat from the brand inCelebrity Traitors. We think it’s a great option for those check wide-leg trousers Claude loves so much, too.
