Chop, blend and whisk your way to tasty meals with these tried and tested stick mixers

best hand blender

The best hand blenders (also known as stick blenders or immersion blenders) are a staple for home cooks. They’re incredibly convenient for blending soups or purees, as you don’t have to tip hot ingredients into a blender jug or food processor – and there's much less clean-up, too.

An immersion blender can also make things like mayonnaise and salad dressings, and many come with attachments that allow you to whisk and chop, too. So, whether you want to make soups, sauces, meringue or salsa, these compact appliances will save you both time and cupboard space.

The best hand blender to buy in 2026

The Good Housekeeping Institute has tested 50 stick blenders to find the best models for all recipes and budgets. Read on for our detailed reviews, as well as more details on our testing process and buying guide.

best hand blenders

How we test hand blenders

In the Good Housekeeping Institute lab, we test hand blenders just as you’d use them at home – by blitzing up a storm in our kitchen. We look for buys that achieve the desired texture and are comfortable to hold and use, with genuinely useful attachments that work well. Here's what we consider.

  • Blending: To test the stick blender’s capabilities, we blend up a banana milkshake, make mayonnaise and whip up a batter. We're looking for evenly smooth, glossy and well-aerated results at top speed.
  • Chopping: If the blender comes with a chopper attachment, we test it by pureeing chickpeas, dicing onions, chopping parsley, making breadcrumbs, grinding hazelnuts and crushing ice (if the chopper is compatible). We assess whether the finished product is chopped evenly, if the motor struggled (with slowed rotation or overheating), and if any ingredients got stuck under the blades.
  • Whisking: If the blender comes with a whisk attachment, we test this by whipping double cream and egg whites, looking for a light, stable texture that hasn’t curdled.
  • Ease of use: We assess how easy and comfortable the immersion blender is to use, store and clean, noting things like excessive splashing or overly strong suction to the bottom of a jug.
  • Design: We also look at whether the immersion blender and its attachments are well-designed and good quality, examining things like safety, bulk and how well the parts fit together.
  • Instructions: Finally, we judge how clear and thorough the instructions are. We want to see troubleshooting tips, recipes, safety advice and a contact number for support.

We then combine all the feedback into one overall score out of 100. These are our favourite models to shop right now.

Pros

  • Fast and powerful
  • Easy and intuitive to use, with large variable speed button
  • Lots of accessories including coffee/spice grinder, ice blades

Cons

  • Accessories take up a lot of space

Score: 97/100

Our best hand blender came close to scoring full marks for its all-round outstanding performance. Our tester enjoyed a smooth milkshake, creamy mayo and perfectly whipped cream. It pureed chickpeas evenly with ease – hummus fans, take note – and produced a glossy, if slightly thin, batter. It whisked egg whites to stiff peaks and the included grinder blitzed hazelnuts in a flash.

Intuitive and comfortable to use, it comes with a generous array of attachments, including an ice blade for chopping large cubes down to slushy-sized shards. They all proved easy to fit, but you'll need to think about where to store them if you’re short on cupboard space.

Pros

  • Excelled across all our tests
  • Sturdy, ergonomic design
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Would have loved extra accessories and another speed setting

Score: 96/100

Say goodbye to lumps and bumps with this powerful gadget. The Bosch stick blender blitzed even the most challenging ingredients, acing every test we put it through. The sturdy metal shaft feels like it’s been built to last and the ergonomic design means you can puree in comfort.

It comes with a blending jar attachment, and the blades created such strong suction that we didn't have to worry about clumps sticking to the bottom. There’s also plenty of space around the blades, making them a breeze to clean. Extra accessories and a second speed setting would make our joint runner-up blender even more versatile. Still, these minor gripes were easily eclipsed by its impressive blending performance.

Pros

  • Great all-round performance
  • Comfortable to use
  • Good range of accessories including a potato masher

Cons

  • Attachments aren’t dishwasher safe
  • Not suitable for blending frozen ingredients

Score: 94/100

This do-it-all hand blender comes with a masher for making everybody’s favourite comfort food: fluffy mashed potato. Its three-blade blending arm marks it out from its competitors, ensuring speedier results, and its rubber handle makes it comfortable to hold at full power.

On test, it made light work of blending liquids, creating an evenly mixed, powder-free milkshake. It whisked egg whites and cream to perfection and produced top-notch mayo. The speed switch proved slightly awkward to use one-handed, but that’s hardly a deal-breaker.

Pros

  • Three-year guarantee
  • Comfortable to use
  • Great value

Cons

  • No extra attachments
  • Not dishwasher safe

Score: 93/100

This powerful stick blender made light work of most tasks we threw at it in the lab. Blending up a milkshake took 28 seconds on the maximum speed setting, while our batter needed just 18 seconds to form a thick, creamy consistency.

Its worst result was when making mayonnaise, which (if we’re being picky) could have been thicker. Even so, it still had a glossy appearance, with no curdling.

The blender doesn’t come with as many accessories as others in this list, but it does come with a beaker and storage lid, making it a good pick for those who frequently make their own condiments at home.

Pros

  • Created a smooth hummus in 90 seconds
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • The chopping blade wasn't the most effective
  • It isn't suitable for crushing ice

Score: 91/100

Another excellent hand blender – our tester found it straightforward and quick to use. It scored full marks for its speedy egg whisking abilities, but it also truly excelled when pureeing. It created a smooth chickpea dip with a professional glossy appearance in 90 seconds.

The included chopping blade attachment did struggle to turn out uniform pieces of onion and hazelnut, with some food also getting stuck on the blade. It’s also worth noting that this hand blender isn’t suitable for crushing ice, but it’s easy to overlook those small complaints when you consider how quickly it gets the job done. All in all, a great option for those short on time who also want versatile blending capabilities.

KitchenAid Go Cordless Hand Blender with Battery

Pros

  • Won't operate unless locking mechanism is in place
  • Remained cool after prolonged use

Cons

  • Requires a tight grip to keep constant pressure on the ‘on’ button, which could be an issue after extended periods

Score: 89/100

This cordless stick blender delivered some impressive results, earning full marks for blending mayonnaise, chickpeas, a milkshake, and egg whites. Tougher ingredients such as nuts and ice proved a challenge though, with pieces getting stuck under the blade or spitting out of the top of the goblet. However, our testers liked that you could increase the speed of the blade by simply applying more pressure to the button.

The model also comes with an interchangeable battery that can be used across the rest of KitchenAid’s cordless appliances including its hand mixer and food chopper. As it’s battery-powered, the blender isn’t restricted by a power cord, plus you’ll get up to 30 minutes of blending time before you need to recharge!

Pros

  • Easy to use with a variety of speeds and a turbo setting
  • Plenty of recipe inspiration from the companion app
  • All accessories are dishwasher-safe (except the blending head)

Cons

  • Less effective as a chopper
  • Most of the instructions are in the app

Score: 88/100

This sleek hand blender is also versatile thanks to its array of attachments (including a potato masher and a dual whisk hand mixer for perfecting your stiff peaks), while variable power allows for added precision.

The powerful blender is easy to use and impressed across the board, especially when making mayonnaise, mixing batter and whizzing up a banana smoothie. It was less effective as a chopper though, with testers struggling to achieve even results when tackling both an onion and parsley.

You’ll never be out of ideas, as it comes with recipe inspiration via Haier’s app. And once you’ve finished preparing your latest invention, clean-up will be done in a jiffy as you can pop the accessories in the dishwasher (apart from the main blending head).

Pros

  • Converts into a full-sized hand mixer as well as chopper and whisk
  • Outstanding chopper performance
  • Dishwasher-safe accessories

Cons

  • Quite heavy to use for longer periods
  • Turbo button is somewhat awkward to press

Score: 87/100

This versatile Ninja combines a stick blender, hand mixer and mini chopper into one impressive set. Its chopper was the star of our tests, producing exceptionally even onion, parsley and hazelnut pieces in seconds. The stick blender put in a strong performance, too, creating silky blended chickpeas and glossy mayonnaise, and the hand mixer whipped cream and egg whites into light clouds.

We found the attachments easy to swap around and appreciated the dishwasher-safe parts, but there are some compromises. It’s fairly heavy, particularly when used as a hand mixer (which weighs 1.24kg), and the stick blender’s turbo controls can feel awkward – you need to press both buttons at once. With several attachments to accommodate, you’ll also need a fair amount of storage space. Overall, though, it’s a powerful multitasker you’re sure to get plenty of use from.

Pros

  • Chopped onions well

Cons

  • Handle feels heavy
  • No accompanying recipes

Score: 86/100

Finely chopping herbs and nuts was easy with this stick blender. But that’s not the only culinary challenge it impressed on; our tester said it was excellent for pureeing chickpeas too.

Things were a little messy when it came to blending liquids such as mayonnaise, egg whites and cream, as the whisk caused some splash back, but the end results were good. And switching to a slower speed is simple – the accessible dial at the top of the handle allows you to easily change settings and have more control over the blender.

Philips 5000 Series Hand Blender

Pros

  • Excellent mini chopper performance
  • Has three different speed settings

Cons

  • Sensitive button is slightly uncomfortable to maintain at low speed for longer periods
  • Fiddly to clean by hand

Score: 84/100

This Philips model comes with a mini chopper attachment that wowed our testers. It chopped parsley and nuts quickly and evenly with very little left stuck under the blades, making it one of the best in the roundup – ideal if you want to make pesto or curry pastes regularly. Its blender performance was strong across the board too, and our testers loved the thick, glossy mayonnaise that it whipped up in under two minutes.

The three speed settings are easy to adjust on the fly, with a clear LED display showing exactly which one you’re on. Plus, the motor stayed cool during extended use. At around one kilo, it’s a touch heavier than some, and the grooves around the attachments can be fiddly to clean by hand (though some parts are dishwasher safe). But overall, it’s a sturdy and reliable mid-range pick.

Alchemy Hand Blender Set

Salter Alchemy Hand Blender Set

Pros

  • Controls are easy to use – just press one button to operate
  • Blender stayed cool throughout use
  • All parts click together easily

Cons

  • There’s no continuous blending option, so it isn’t comfortable to use for extended periods
  • Some suction near the bottom of the container
  • The whisk feels quite flimsy and less durable than the other attachments

Score: 84/100

This versatile set includes a whisk attachment and chopping bowl for getting your kitchen prep done in a flash. It truly shines when mixing liquids, delivering a smooth, creamy milkshake and whipping up pancake batter in just 15 seconds on turbo mode. It also whisked cream and egg whites to near perfection, both finishing with a light, glossy appearance.

While working quickly, the chopper bowl did struggle to achieve consistent, even results with softer ingredients, though. Onion and parsley seemed to get stuck under the blade, leading to uneven chopping. That said, it handled 50 grams of hazelnuts like a pro, blitzing them in under 15 seconds.

We would have liked dishwasher-safe accessories, but overall, this is a smart buy for the price.

VQ Laura Ashley China Rose 500W Electric Hand Blender

Pros

  • Clear instructions include a selection of recipes
  • Comes with a storage bag for the attachments

Cons

  • Testers found some dirt traps that made cleaning longer
  • Didn’t chop herbs finely

Score: 82/100

This eye-catching blender produced creamy milkshakes, smooth mayonnaise and well-mixed batter. The whisk attachment was similarly reliable, blitzing egg white and cream so fantastically that our testers said the results compared to those of a dedicated electric whisk.

Chopping and pureeing saw a more mixed performance; testers were left with uneven chunks of chickpeas and nuts and found pressing the power button down for the extended period required to complete the tasks slightly uncomfortable.

But our superficial side is willing to forgive these flaws because of the classic Laura Ashley print.

Pros

  • Good instruction manual with lots of recipes and tips
  • Sleek design

Cons

  • Vibrated on the full speed setting
  • The thick handle wasn't the most comfortable

Score: 81/100

Despite not being able to match some of the other blenders on performance, our testers were big fans of the Dualit's instruction manual, which includes an extensive selection of recipes and cooking tips – ranging from a dinner party-ready salmon pâté to a five spice sweet potato mash.

It also made quick work of chopping and blending, although the full speed setting caused some vibration and light suction issues. Our tester also found the thick handle became a little uncomfortable when used for longer periods. Nevertheless, it has a sleek modern look, and the attachments are dishwasher safe, which will come in handy as you work your way through all those recipes.

Braun MultiQuick 9 Hand Blender MQ9187XLI

Pros

  • Excellent with thick mixtures and ice
  • Creates minimal splashing
  • Wide range of attachments

Cons

  • Chopper struggled with herbs
  • Controls can become uncomfortable with extended use

Score: 80/100

With an impressive 1200W motor and a generous selection of attachments which include a two-litre food processor, Braun's latest version of the MultiQuick has plenty of power at its disposal. It excelled at tackling thicker mixtures, producing very smooth chickpeas and earning full marks for its glossy batter.

Although the mini chopper can’t be used to dice herbs due to the height of the blade, it crushed ice quickly and evenly – a great result for a handheld appliance. Another strong point is the anti-splash flower-shaped blender head, which successfully kept mess to a minimum.

On the downside, we found the safety lock, which turns on after a short period of inactivity, a little frustrating when stopping and starting. The pressure-sensitive controls also tended to get uncomfortable over time, and bear in mind that you’ll also need to find space for all those attachments. Nevertheless, its blending performance and ability to tackle tougher ingredients make it a strong pick.

Tefal Soleil Hand Blender HB4718G0

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Has a turbo mode

Cons

  • Feels a little plasticky
  • Lacks accessories

Score: 76/100

If you’re on a budget, this affordable hand blender from Tefal offers great value and comes with a two-year warranty for peace of mind. Although you don't get any extra attachments, it does come with an 800ml beaker, which is the perfect way to keep the head submerged while making things like mayonnaise or salad dressing.

This model did a great job of blending up batches of mayonnaise, batter, and milkshake in testing, with even results and minimal splashing. Chickpeas were more of a struggle, with the blender slowing down at the beginning – though the motor didn’t get hot.

Note that this hand blender does tend to suction towards the bottom of the container, and you have to press the button quite hard to activate turbo mode. But all in all, it’s a reliable budget buy.

Why should you trust the Good Housekeeping Institute?

The Good Housekeeping Institute has tested hundreds of kitchen gadgets, whisking, blending, pureeing and chopping to find the very best on the market. Having reviewed 50 hand blenders, our experts know how to separate the powerful blenders from the pretenders.

We've also been testing products for over 100 years, which means we've seen every type of appliance you can imagine, including how they've evolved over time, and often reviewing products before they even come to market.

best lelo vibrators

How do I choose a hand blender?

Choosing the best hand blender for you depends on what you’ll actually use it for. Here are the main things to consider when shopping.

  • Design – Look for a comfortable, non-slip handle and controls that are easy to operate one-handed – these are qualities we look for in testing. A stainless-steel blending shaft (which all the models in this roundup have) is usually more durable than plastic and better suited to hot soups.
  • Power – Higher wattage (of 800W and above) generally means smoother results, especially for thick dips and purées like hummus. If you want to crush tougher ingredients such as nuts or ice, check that the model is designed for it, as not all can handle hard foods.
  • Speed settings – More speeds give you better control and help reduce splashing. A variable speed control also allows you to gradually build up power, while a turbo or pulse boost can help break down stubborn chunks.
  • Attachments – Some models are just blenders, while others come with extras such as a whisk, mini chopper or even a masher. These can add versatility, but they’re only worth paying for if you’ll use them regularly.
  • Cleaning and storage – If you have a dishwasher, look for attachments that don’t require hand washing. If you’re choosing a set, consider where you’ll store all the attachments before you commit.

What attachments should I look for in a hand blender?

Focus on the attachments you’ll genuinely use. The most common extras include:

  • Whisk – ideal for whipping cream, egg whites or light batters. Some even have a double-whisk hand mixer attachment.
  • Mini chopper – useful for herbs, onions, nuts and small batches of pesto or salsa. Some come with ice blades to allow them to crush ice.
  • Beaker or measuring jug – particularly helpful for small quantities. Its tall, narrow shape keeps ingredients contained and allows the blending head to stay fully immersed, for example when making mayonnaise or salad dressings.
  • Masher – a good addition if you often make mashed potatoes or puréed veg.
  • Coffee/spice grinder – great for pulverising dry ingredients into powder.

Are hand blenders good for smoothies?

Hand blenders are such multi-taskers that there’s little they can’t do – smoothies are no exception. Their blades break down large chunks of fruit, resulting in a deliciously smooth and refreshing drink. In fact, mixing a smoothie is a staple part of our stick blender testing.

Of course, if you regularly start your morning with a blended fruit drink, one of the best smoothie makers will generally do the job more quickly than a hand held blender, and require less manual effort. Plus, their versatile jugs transform into a cup for drinking on the go.

Is a hand blender worth it?

In short, yes, especially if you want to blitz up a variety of ingredients without a fuss. Bringing lots of versatility to your fingertips, an immersion blender is a worthwhile gadget for anyone who loves creating soups, sauces, condiments and batter from scratch.

However, if you're more into baking, you might be better investing in a hand mixer (see below).

Which is better: a hand blender or a mixer?

There is some overlap in the function of hand blenders and the best hand mixers, but there are also several key differences. Both appliances can be used to mix batter but, in general, hand blenders are for cooking tasks and hand mixers are for baking.

Use your hand held blender to puree dips, blend milkshakes and smoothies and make sauces, and your hand mixer to knead dough, beat eggs and whip cream.

Many hand blenders come with balloon whisk attachments, and a couple in this list – the Haier I-Master Series 5 Electric Hand Blender and the Ninja Foodi 3-in-1 Hand Blender, Hand Mixer & Chopper CI100UK – actually convert into hand mixers.

Are cordless hand blenders as powerful as corded ones?

Cordless hand blenders give you the freedom to move around the kitchen – and blend directly on the hob – without being tethered to a plug socket. While they’re battery-powered, the best models still have enough oomph for everyday jobs, though we’ve found that the most powerful corded options retain the edge when it comes to very tough ingredients.

In our tests, the KitchenAid Go Cordless Hand Blender (Score: 89/100) handled chickpeas impressively well, producing smooth, even results. However, it found harder ingredients such as nuts and ice more challenging, with pieces occasionally catching under the blade.

If you mainly blitz soups, dips and softer foods, a cordless model should serve you well. But for regularly crushing ice or tackling dense mixtures, a corded blender will usually offer more consistent power.

If you’re replacing an existing hand blender, there are plenty of places for you to safely recycle your old one. Find your nearest electrical recycling point, or read our guide on how to donate or dispose of your appliances and tech for extra guidance.

The verdict on hand blenders

Our winner, the Braun MultiQuick 9 Hand Blender, put in a flawless performance across all our tests. It's our top pick for a powerful, reliable and versatile sous chef.

But if you're looking for a great value buy that will blitz ingredients with ease, our runner-up, the Bosch CleverMixx, is an excellent choice under £40.

If you prefer a cordless model, the KichenAid Go Cordless Hand Blender allows you to blitz around the kitchen without being tethered to a plug.
