best bathroom scales

Whether you've been upping the mileage on your daily walks, hitting the gym or working on your diet, a bathroom scale is a good way to monitor your health and fitness progress.

And these days, the best bathroom scales can help you track so much more than just your weight. Many smart models also measure a host of in-depth health stats, including body fat, bone density, muscle mass, heart rate and even nerve health.

But whether you want an all-singing, all-dancing set of scales, or you’re in the market for a more budget-friendly model to help you track your stats, accuracy is key.

Which are the best UK bathroom scales to shop in 2026?

With so many options to choose from, how do you know which bathroom scales are right for you? Enter the Good Housekeeping Institute experts, who tried out scales from all the leading brands to help you find your perfect model. Here are our winners in one handy list with the full reviews below.

How we test bathroom scales

best bathroom scales

We tested over 30 sets of weighing scales at the Good Housekeeping Institute to find the best on the market. To assess their reliability and consistency when measuring weight, we placed two calibrated weights on each scale three times and recorded the results. We also timed how quickly it took for the scales to respond to the added weight.

For smart scales, we compared the results with a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan at the Body View Clinic. The DEXA scan, which uses low-dose X-rays to measure body density and body composition, is considered the gold standard for accurate readings.

Back at the Good Housekeeping Institute, we assessed the overall design of each set of scales, considering factors like size, shape, display and backlight availability, to ensure they'll fit into your bathroom seamlessly. We also tested any associated apps to see how easy they were to set up and use, assessed any extra features, and we read through the instructions to make sure they were clear and easy to follow.

Our experts then collated all the feedback and data to award each model a final score. These are the ones you can rely on...

Pros

  • Large, clear display
  • Quickly displays an accurate weight

Cons

  • Only basic product information given
  • No BMI or body fat readings

Score: 96/100

Beurer's products feature in our best SAD lamps and best electric blankets round-ups, so we were keen to see how its scales performed in testing, and we weren't disappointed.

It's a top pick if you're after something simple and fuss free. According to our expert, it does its job accurately and quickly – on average, we waited just 1.43 seconds for weight readings.

The well-lit display is easy to read, while the large platform proved stable and can accommodate feet up to a size 12 and a weight of up to 200kg.

Note, nearby movement can power it on, so make sure to store it away to preserve battery life. At under £40, it offers excellent value for money.

Withings BodyScan 2

Pros

  • Provides an in- depth look at your health - with 60 metrics
  • Consistent results
  • Clear display and stable platform

Cons

  • Lags in the app

Score: 92/100

Just like the first-generation Withing’s Body Scan model, this smart scale offers more than just weight measurements, analysing your whole body across 60 metrics – 20 more than the previous version. These include basics such as muscle and fat percentage, plus newer metrics including your heart age and blood-oxygen monitoring.

The smart scale has a very similar design to its predecessor too, with retractable handles and a sleek glass platform, both of which our expert liked. However, it no longer comes with a wall mount, as the original model did, which may or may not be an issue for you. The scale connects to the Withings app, which provides a detailed breakdown of your results, although we found these took a little while to come through, so you’ll need to be patient.

Note, you can use the scales without an app subscription, but Withings + gives you a deeper dive into your data for £8.95 a month. In our testing, the scales’ measurements matched those from our ‘control’ DEXA scan, which gave us confidence in its accuracy. The retractable handles house electrodes that give ECG readings, allowing this model to go beyond standard weight and body-composition measurements. It's a little more expensive than its predecessor, but it’s a great investment if you want a more thorough picture of your health.

Pros

  • Cost-effective due to battery-free aspect
  • Large, non-slip platform

Cons

  • Slow reset time
  • Provides basic data

Score: 91/100

Cutting back on waste by forgoing batteries, these digital scales are powered by a button you push with your feet. They gave us an accurate weight reading and the large platform should comfortably accommodate feet up to a size 12.

The set has strong non-slip feet, but felt a bit unstable when we were getting on and off. The display window is also rather small and the surface marked fairly easily. On balance though, this simple set of scales is a greener buy that doesn’t compromise on reliability.

Renpho MorphoScan Nova Body Composition Scale

Now 33% Off

Pros

  • Accurate weight readings
  • 50 metrics including BMI and body fat
  • No subscription fees

Cons

  • App is detailed but overwhelming

Score: 90/100

If you’re on a slightly tighter budget but still want a smart scale, Renpho’s design takes a deep dive into your health, giving you a clear picture of your body composition. It measures 50 metrics, including BMI, your basal metabolic rate and age, plus waist-to-hip ratio.

Despite its slim design, our expert found the platform stable, while the retractable handle, which contains four electrodes, helped to deliver consistent measurements – in our testing, its weight and body-fat measurements were accurate. The scales support multiple users and sync your data with the Renpho app, although our expert found the presentation a little overwhelming at times, due to the amount of data it presented. We also noticed a slight lag, with some results taking a while to appear. The upside? There are no subscription fees.

The fully rechargeable scale switches on as you step on it, saving battery, and it worked well for a wide range of foot sizes. If you want to see your stats immediately, there’s a display on the handle that’s bright and clear, although it doesn't provide the same level of detail as the app does.

Withings Body Smart

Pros

  • Focuses on health overall, rather than just weight
  • The app provides daily user-friendly advice

Cons

  • Flooring impacted readings

Score: 87/100

If you like the sound of the Withings option above but don't want to spend a fortune, consider this more affordable option. The set-up process took a matter of minutes and getting to grips with the device was a breeze thanks to the handy in-app prompts and tips.

In terms of insights, you can track body composition, muscle mass, bone mass, visceral fat, metabolic age and standing heart rate, with key data visible on the scale itself and detailed graphs within the app to help you keep on top of your progress over time. The majority of measurements were accurate when compared with the DEXA scan, although the body fat percentages were out slightly.

There are a range of modes to choose from, including ‘weight’, ‘athlete’ and ‘pregnancy’, but the one that stood out for our experts was ‘eyes closed’. When using this setting, you won’t see any numbers when you step on the scale; instead, a range of motivational graphics will pop up on the screen. This is ideal for days when you want to focus on overall health outcomes rather than numerical changes. If you do want to review your measurements at a later stage, you can check them in the app.

Aidapt Talking Scale

Pros

  • Clear and loud audio reading of weight
  • Quick activation

Cons

  • Text display is slightly unclear

Score: 86/100

This talking digital scale is designed for those who are blind or partially sighted. It announces weight measurements clearly and accurately and it activated quickly too, but we found it a little unstable towards the edges.

There’s room on the platform for size 10 feet but the display screen could be clearer for those who want to use it, and it would be nice if batteries were included. Those are minor niggles though for an otherwise straightforward, reliable and accessible set of scales.

Pros

  • Consistently accurate weight readings in our lab tests
  • Clear display and stable platform
  • 10-year guarantee

Cons

  • Limited set-up instructions

Score: 84/100

If you like the sound of the smart scales above, but you’re on a tighter budget, consider this great-value option from Salter, which tracks weight, BMI and body fat, alongside 57 other metrics, via the app.

Our expert said it delivered quick, accurate readings and activated reliably when we stepped on it. It also showed the readings clearly on the screen and held them long enough to make a note.

Our tester also appreciated the slick design, highlighting the generous glass platform (which won’t look out of place in your bathroom), the non-slip feet and the easy-grip handles for enhanced stability and better accuracy during readings. The app is straightforward to use and readings proved accurate and consistent when compared with the DEXA scan.

Lepulse Smart Scale

Pros

  • High-quality design
  • Excellent app functionality
  • Accurate readings overall

Cons

  • Long cable may get in the way
  • Screen on the smaller side

Score: 80/100

This shiny Lepulse design comes with handles that contain electrodes for more accurate body composition readings. It also provides a lot of health metrics (over 20) spanning BMI, body fat, protein mass, water weight, body age and more.

According to our expert, the scale was a pleasure to use – readings appeared on the screen within seconds, and they also praised the well-thought-out app, which was a doddle to navigate. It presents your data neatly, with colour-coded graphs, trends and comprehensive reports. It also syncs with apps like Apple Health, Google Fit and Fitbit and allows up to 24 (yes, really!) users on the app.

Body weight, bone density and BMI readings were extremely accurate – only the body fat reading was out by 3%. Still, this offers excellent value when you compare it with some pricier smart scales on the market.

Eufy C20 Smart Scale

Now 18% Off

Pros

  • Multiple modes for the whole family
  • Insightful app with long-term tracking
  • Simple to set up and use

Cons

  • Platform may be too compact for some
  • Inconsistent body fat readin

Score: 76/100

This simple smart scale from the experts at Eufy boasts a large 3.36-inch colour screen that’s bright, clear and easy to read. It reveals 16 key body metrics directly on the scale, so you don’t need to reach for your phone to check your results. There are also multiple modes – including guest, baby, athlete and pet (!) – and it supports up to 16 users, making it a good choice for busy households.

Set-up was relatively foolproof and using the scale on a day-to-day basis was equally intuitive. Our expert particularly liked the accompanying app, praising the speedy connectivity, simple navigation and wide array of metrics on offer. It feels solid when you're stepping on and off, and the non-slip feet keep things secure on hard floors. Just note, the platform may be a little too compact if you have larger feet.

In terms of readings, weight accuracy was reliable in our tests, but body fat readings were consistently higher than our reference DEXA scan, meaning the scale is better suited to tracking trends over time. Considering the price, though, it’s hard to complain.

Withings Body Comp Scales

Body Comp Scales

Pros

  • Compatible with the Withings app, as well as Apple Health, Strava, MyFitnessPal and more
  • Each user can customise their experience using stored data
  • Detailed instructions and videos on how to use

Cons

  • Expensive

Score: 75/100

Another Withings option, this one is brimming with high-tech features and is super easy to set up and use. It doesn’t just measure your weight, body fat and BMI either – it also monitors your visceral fat, water percentage, fat and bone mass, nerve health and heart rate, plus it gives you a vascular age and more.

On the whole, readings were accurate, although body fat and vascular age were out slightly when compared with the DEXA scan. The bright screen displays a graph with your previous eight measurements so you can track your progress and meet your goals, and if all that wasn’t enough, the user-friendly Health Mate app provides yet more in-depth feedback.

It can keep track of eight users and the scale itself is sturdy, with a generous amount of foot room so it should be suitable for the whole family. There are even specially designed ‘athlete’ and ‘pregnancy’ modes to meet individual needs.

Sure, it’s an investment but if you want to understand your health and body better, it's worth considering.

Cons

  • Body fat readings not the most accurate
  • Nightlight drains battery quickly

Score: 73/100

This slim, Bluetooth-enabled scale covers 13 different biometrics including BMI, bone mass, body water percentage, body fat and more. The large, easy-to-read LED screen shows all your key stats while the app – which scored top marks for functionality – tracks changes over time and provides an overall picture of your health.

The stylish, compact design means the scales will look unobtrusive in the corner of your bathroom. The tempered glass platform feels sturdy, and the scale features a motion-activated light that doubles as a night light – handy for bathroom trips in the early hours).

Disappointingly, our body fat readings were significantly out (by over 10%), but other metrics, including weight, BMI and muscle mass, were extremely consistent and accurate.

Pros

  • Weight readings were accurate
  • Displays metrics in app and on the scale

Cons

  • Display was crowded
  • Footplate was more compact

Score: 70/100

This affordable smart scale provides eight metrics via its bright 5-inch colour display and the full 13 body-composition metrics within the app, including your weight, body water, BMI, bone mass and your metabolic age.

Although it was easy to use, our expert found the footplate a little small, while the display looked crowded. Weight accuracy was excellent in testing, however, other metrics, including body fat percentage, were slightly off from the DEXA scan results.

We found it easy and quick to connect the scale to the Renpho app, and the data felt clearer, as there was less to digest. It also supports multiple users, so it’s perfect for the whole family.

What type of bathroom scale is most accurate?

There are three main types of scales: mechanical (or analogue) scales that use springs to measure and display weight on a dial; digital scales that measure electronically and display weight digitally; and smart scales that measure by sending a safe electrical wave through the body, connecting to smartphones over Bluetooth.

Smart scales tend to be the most accurate, offering a comprehensive breakdown of your body’s composition – some on our list can track over 20 different metrics.

When it comes to size, a 30 x 30cm scale should be large enough for most feet without taking up too much space in your bathroom or cupboard.

How do I know if my bathroom scale is accurate?

The easiest way to check if your bathroom scale is accurate is to place it on a hard, flat surface and weigh an item with a known weight (like a dumbbell, kettlebell or even a bag of flour) to see if the reading matches. You can also try stepping on and off it a few times – the number should stay consistent.

If readings seem erratic, it could be time to replace the batteries or recalibrate the scale according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Rest assured, our experts have rigorously tested all the scales in this round-up to ensure they provide consistent, accurate readings.

How does a bathroom scale measure body fat?

Smart scales use a method called bioelectrical impedance analysis to estimate body fat. They send a painless electrical current through your body to measure your body's resistance – also known as impedance – against the current.

Because fat, muscle and water all conduct electricity differently, the scale combines this reading with details such as height, age and sex to calculate an array of measurements, including body fat, muscle mass, water percentage and more.

But, it's important to remember that these values are estimates. For the most accurate measurements, you should consult a doctor, and if you're pregnant or have a pacemaker, you should avoid using body composition features.

Should I weigh myself on carpet or hard floor?

Carpet can be uneven, too soft, or not make direct contact with the floor, so you should get a more accurate reading if you weigh yourself on a harder surface, such as wood, stone or tiled flooring. For the best results, find an even surface and weigh yourself in the same place every time.

Why am I heavier on digital scales?

Digital scales are normally more precise than analogue scales, as they use sensors instead of springs. But if you think your digital scales aren’t weighing correctly, it could be due to numerous reasons, such as the calibration being off, the time of day you’ve weighed yourself or because you’ve placed your scales on an uneven surface.

To see if the measurement is correct, place an object that has a specific weight, such as a dumbbell, on your scales to see if it records the same measurement. If it's off, try to recalibrate your scales or place it on a harder surface for a more accurate reading.

The verdict on bathroom scales

best hairdryers

If you're after a simple digital scale without the fancy extras, the Beurer GS-410 Signature Line is a great value buy. The weight readings were accurate, and it was a pleasure to use.

If you're after a smart scale that does it all, the Withings Body Scan 2 offers 60 metrics – including heart age and blood-oxygen monitoring. With a detailed app and accurate readings, it gives you a lot of stats - helpful if you want to make any health changes.

It is expensive though, so if you're looking for a smart scale that tracks a wide range of health metrics, but don't want to spend a fortune, go for Withings Body Smart.
