The best maternity activewear for bump-friendly workouts, from M&S to Sweaty Betty
These pieces will keep you comfortable and supported

There are plenty of reasons to stay active during pregnancy – though first-trimester sickness and exhaustion can make it hard to muster the energy. As long as you’re feeling up to it, the NHS says gentle exercise is safe for your baby and beneficial for you, helping to prepare your body for labour.
While you should steer clear of contact sports and scuba diving and skydiving (if they happen to be your thing), activities like walking, prenatal yoga, Pilates, strength training and swimming can all play a role in your routine.
“Regular, gentle movement can boost energy levels and ease common discomforts such as back pain, stiffness and swelling, while supporting better posture as your body changes,” says women’s personal trainer and nutrition coach, Sarah Campus. “It can also improve mood and sleep, as physical activity encourages the release of endorphins and helps regulate the body’s rhythms.”
“Other benefits include improved circulation and a reduced risk of complications, while maintaining strength and cardiovascular fitness can make labour and delivery more manageable and support a smoother recovery,” she adds.
