For me, the best thing about fall isn’t the picturesque foliage or pumpkin spice-flavored everything—it’s that I can finally pull my boot collection out from the back of my closet. I live in boots for more than half of the year, so I have some very strong opinions about which pairs will elevate your fall wardrobe without hurting your feet in the process. Luckily, many of my favorites are available on Amazon—with fast, free shipping to boot.

So which Amazon fall boots are actually worth the investment? I, along with several other GH editors, combed through our personal footwear inventory to create this list of tried-and-true boots we’re actually wearing this fall. Our favorite Amazon picks run the gamut from investment-worthy riding boots from Frye that you’ll wear for years to come, to trendy heeled sock booties that offer impressive comfort and support for under $20.

Why we like it: I’ve had these cowboy boots for nearly five years now, and they still look as good as new. The leather has worn in beautifully, and they’re hands-down one of the comfiest pairs I own (I even prefer them over some sneakers), thanks to the low heel and cushioned insole. I always reach for them when I’m going to be on my feet all day—they’re my go-to for music festivals.

What you should know: These boots run true to size, per my experience. They have a 1.75-inch heel.

Why we like it: Riding boots are a timeless addition to any wardrobe, and this investment-worthy Frye pair is made from genuine leather for an expensive look and feel. “I’ve had these through multiple trend cycles and they’ve really held up!” Director of Editorial Commerce Brie Schwartz says. “They’re super comfy.”

What you should know: These boots have a full zipper closure and a 1-inch heel. They’re available in standard and wide-calf sizes.

Why we like it: “Dr. Scholl’s boots are notoriously cozy, and these didn’t disappoint,” Senior Editor Amanda Fama says. “They lasted about four years before I needed to swap them, but I was shocked by their longevity and durability at such an affordable price point.”

What you should know: Some shoppers noted that these boots run narrow, and recommended sizing up if you have wide feet. They have a 2-inch block heel.

Why we like it: Rainy fall weather calls for trusty waterproof boots, and these classic Hunter wellies were named our experts’ best overall pick—they outperformed every other pair in our Lab waterproof tests. Our testers also noted that they’re comfortable enough for all-day wear.

What you should know: While our experts are partial to this Short style because they’re lightweight, they’re also available in Tall.

Why we like it: “These are a classic boot with a bit of an edge,” Home & Apparel Reviews Analyst Amanda Constantine says. “They’re long-lasting and sturdy, with great traction.” She also notes that they pair nicely with everything from trousers to frilly dresses.

What you should know: Constantine says that these boots can be painful to break in at first, but they mold to the shape of your foot over time.

Why we like it: “For boots that are chic yet walkable, I’ve been impressed with the Aldy boots from Dolce Vita,” Senior Shopping Editor Samantha Jones says. “The skinny heel looks delicate, but it’s actually quite sturdy, so I don’t feel like I’m wobbling with every step.”

What you should know: Jones noted that the narrow pointed toe on these boots still feels roomy. They have a full zipper closure and a 2.4-inch kitten heel.

Why we like it: I live in New York City, so finding a snow boot that’s stylish and practical is important to me. This pair ticks all my boxes: it’s waterproof and the soles are very grippy on snow and ice, while the brown suede material and non-clunky silhouette looks great with fall and winter outfits.

What you should know: These boots are waterproof, according to the brand, and have a 1.5-inch platform heel.

Why we like it: “I love a good cowboy boot just as much as the next person, but this pair from Marc Fisher is a personal favorite, since its sleek leather construction is more understated for city living,” Jones says. “The pointed toe adds a leg-lengthening element to my everyday dressing, while the lower heel makes it easy to walk in.”

What you should know: Jones notes that these boots fit true to size. They don’t have a zipper closure, but they have pull tabs to make them easier to put on.

Why we like it: “I was hesitant about trying these boots since the heels are so thin—but when I tried them, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and supportive they felt,” Fama says. “The upper is velvety-soft and slips on like a sock; I have them in the warm maroon shade (which is unavailable), but I’m tempted to buy the olive-knit pair.”

What you should know: Since these sock boots don’t have a zipper or pull tab, they may be hard to take on and off. The heel height is unspecified by the brand, but they appear to be 3 inches.

Why we like it: Every single time I wear these boots out, I get compliments. The cranberry red color and star details are so much fun, and they’re comfy enough to wear all day long. I love wearing them with a black dress for a pop of color.

What you should know: I personally found that these boots run large and recommends sizing down by half a size or wearing thick socks for a better fit. The boots have a 2-inch block heel.

Why we like it: “A Chelsea boot is a fall staple, and Blundstones have stood out in our evaluations, with testers highlighting their comfortable feel and quality design,” Constantine says. “They’re a solid work boot but also look great when dressed up.”

What you should know: These boots have an elastic gore and pull tabs, which makes them easy to take on and off, according to Constantine.

Why we like it: “These Vivaia ankle boots have remained a staple in my cold-weather wardrobe year after year, and I already know I’ll be reaching for them again when the weather turns in a few weeks,” Shopping Editor Sarah Maberry says. “The stretchy knit material never caused blisters for me—plus it's water-repellent. I also love the curved heel shape. It adds such a nice detail without adding height.”

What you should know: As one of our experts’ top-tested waterproof boots, these booties stand out for their water-resistant, machine-washable fabric. They have a 2.16-inch block heel.

Why we like it: “I got these red boots for a concert over a year ago and I’ve gotten so much more wear out of them than I expected,” Deputy Shopping Editor Heath Owens says. “They’re more comfortable than you’d think. The inside lining feels really soft against the skin. I stood and danced in them for hours at the concert.”

What you should know: Even though these boots have a pointed toe, Owens notes that they don’t feel cramped. His exact star-printed pair isn’t available on Amazon, but this red pair offers a similar look.

Why we like it: “The quality of these (admittedly pricey) boots can’t be understated,” Jones says. “While everyone seems to be wearing Frye’s banana yellow Campus boots, I opted for this deep green hue—and find myself reaching for them constantly. They go with everything from skirts to jeans to oversized sweaters.”

What you should know: Jones loves that these boots are easy to tug on, thanks to their interior loops. She found that the heel feels sturdy while walking around.

Why we like it: “I was in the market for a pair of over-the-knee boots before a songwriting gig a few years back, and these worked out so perfectly that I wore them on and off stage,” Fama says. “I was nervous that the suede legs wouldn’t stay up since they don’t have built-in support like other boots—but after zippering them into place, they don’t budge.”

What you should know: These faux suede boots have a 3-inch block heel. They also have a side zipper closure for easy removal.
